Raphael’s story is a strong example of the power of rescue, and is one that continues to prove why our work matters. He was rescued from severe neglect and was suffering from painful rotting teeth, as well as a mass on his rear and an untreated ear infection. Sadly, his owners did nothing to care for him. He was considered “live evidence” as part of a criminal case, and we cared for him while his abusers were actively being prosecuted.
Because of his ongoing neglect, Raphael needed major surgery. All his teeth had to be removed and he went through months of healing in our care. But he never lost his love for life! As Raphael’s health improved, and his pain diminished, he showed us just how much unconditional love he had in his small body.
After three months, we found Raphael an incredible forever home where he is loved and spoiled rotten by his parents. He now spends his days snuggling with his family, going on car rides and walks in the park, and being a sous-chef in the kitchen – sniffing and taste testing while his family cooks. When he gets excited, he jumps through grass like a kangaroo. And when he finds sunlight, he’ll stand and sunbath with his eyes closed and nose in the air.
