Celebrating Journey’s Birthday – 7/17/19

One year ago, baby Journey was born at our sanctuary just hours after we rescued his mother and two other cows from the dairy industry. Spared the likely fate of a traumatic birth on a crowded transport truck and then being sold for meat, Journey was instead born peacefully at our sanctuary and able to bond with his mother, Peaches.

As many of you know, Journey faced some serious health complications last winter when he suffered from internal bleeding after a routine procedure. With your kind support, we were able to give him emergency medical care and he pulled through. While we still don’t know the underlining cause, Journey was stabilized and has since been happy and healthy!

Today, Journey loves music, playing with his best friend Tonka and is a bottomless pit for treats. He’s a complete mama’s boy, and luckily for him mama Peaches is very patient with him. He can be quite stubborn and on occasion, he is known to throw full blown baby cow temper tantrums when he doesn’t get his way. Our entire team adores him and can’t image the cow barn without him!

This week, we threw Journey a birthday party in the cow barn!

Journey Update 11/29/18:

A few weeks ago, our baby Journey had a medical emergency. A routine procedure turned critical when his blood did not clot properly leading to significant blood loss and other health concerns. Thanks to your support, we had the resources available to act immediately. Journey received the emergency medical attention he needed and, despite being dangerously close to dying, pulled through the past few weeks.

Today, he is running, jumping, and filled with joy. His recovery has been going well and he seems to feel much more like himself again. His vitals are not 100% normal yet and we still have many tests to go to find out the cause, but we are cautiously optimistic that the worst is behind him.

We cannot express how sincerely grateful we are to all those who donated and sent us messages of love and support for Journey. You made all the difference! As thanks, please watch Journey play in his pasture with his mother Peaches, finally feeling better after a hard recovery.

Four Lives Saved!

At Pasado’s Safe Haven, we believe that every animal’s life matters.

We would like you to meet Abbey Rose, Belle, and Peaches. These cows came from a dairy – and each of these beautiful girls has an individual voice and story that can now be heard.

Tragically, millions of other cows are not as fortunate. Right now,  9 million cows are trapped in the dairy industry (in the United States alone). Many people don’t realize that female cows produce milk for the same reason humans do – to feed their babies. Dairy operations forcibly take the babies away from their mothers to sell the milk to other humans for profit instead.

It is a heartbreaking cycle that usually repeats for about four years – until humans decide the female is no longer “profitable”. At that point, the exhausted cows are sold at auction to be used for meat.

This would have been the fate of Abbey Rose, Belle, and Peaches. Instead they are now safe at Pasado’s Safe Haven – already enjoying their second chance at life! And the happy ending continues because within hours of arriving at the sanctuary, Peaches gave birth to a fourth member of this tiny herd.

Now, sweet baby Journey will grow up with his mother, knowing nothing but peace, love, and safety.

Today we are celebrating each of these beautiful cows’ lives. And we are continuing to work on behalf of the others who still need our help.

Baby Cow Calf Journey

Welcome Baby Journey!

Mom rescued just hours before giving birth to her baby! We wanted to share this special moment with you. In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 15th, Pasado’s Safe Haven experienced a first. The birth of a beautiful baby cow!

Our team had just returned to the sanctuary after rescuing three cows headed for auction – cows who were destined to be sold for production or meat. After just hours at our sanctuary, Peaches gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy. His name is Journey, and he is full of life!

The fate of this precious boy changed in an instant. If he managed to survive a traumatic birth on a crowded truck, Journey would have been forcibly taken from his mother and each of them sold by weight for their meat. Fortunately, Peaches and Journey were spared that awful fate. They are both healthy and safe.

Many people don’t realize that on dairy farms it is standard for babies to be taken from their mothers within hours of birth – so that the mother’s milk can be sold to humans. We envision a world where mothers and babies can stay together – living in peace and safety.

If you believe that animal mothers have a right to stay with their babies, please support our work!

The problems in the world can feel so overwhelming sometimes. But today we are celebrating beautiful new baby Journey – and the hope and love he represents.
