On 3/21/24, our team responded on-scene to a severe neglect case involving 9 llamas in Yakima County. The animals had been neglected by their owner for some time and were suffering from a lack of food, shelter, and necessary care. All are severely malnourished and many, if not all, have parasites.
The neglect was so severe that we found many deceased animals on the property. It was a heartbreaking scene as llamas are herd-oriented animals and form close bonds. Our team found one llama who would not leave the side of his deceased mate, who had passed some time ago. Your continued support makes these rescues possible!
We were contacted by the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office to assist with this case as they had no resources to get these llamas to safety. We are often the only resource available for rescues like this and we are grateful to be able to respond to ensure these animals get to safety as quickly as possible. We are grateful to Olympic Peninsula Alpaca and Llama Rescue for assistance with the rescue. They joined us on the scene and are caring for 5 of the llamas in this case.
Right now, our team is conducting full examinations on the 4 llamas in our care. We will be providing ongoing medical care and rehabilitation for them at our sanctuary, where they will have all the time they need to recover before finding new, loving homes. Your generosity makes this lifesaving work possible. You allow us to respond quickly and save animals who have no other hope. Please donate today to support the care of these llamas, the next rescue, and all of our work to end animal cruelty.
