As usual, Pasado’s Safe Haven will be leading efforts to drive positive policy changes for animals during Washington State’s Legislative Session. This year we are proud to be championing The Humane Pet Sales Bill.

Most consumers don’t realize that the vast majority of puppies sold in pet stores come from puppy mills. And yet every year in Washington, thousands of puppies born in puppy mills are trucked into our state and sold to unsuspecting consumers in pet stores. The Humane Pet Sales Bill will help end the heartbreaking trade of animals from puppy mills by limiting pet stores’ ability to sell puppies and kittens. This bill won’t impact consumer choice, as people can still always buy puppies from reputable breeders, or of course adopt from a licensed rescue or humane society.

Our team has been working for many months on this bill. We are delighted to have Representative Amy Walen as the bill’s Prime Sponsor. And we are proud to be working on this effort with national animal welfare groups who want to see change in Washington as badly as we do!

Thanks to your support, we are the only regionally-based animal non-profit with a dedicated presence in Olympia!

If you are a resident of Washington, please take 2 minutes to politely urge your Representatives to support The Humane Pet Sales Bill!

In addition to championing this bill, we are eliminating our adoption fees through March to decrease barriers for potential adopters and to provide even more reason to choose adoption over purchasing a dog or cat from pet stores. Every animal adopted is another life saved! Thank you for your support, we cannot do this without you.
