July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month, a great reminder of the importance of taking preventative measures to keep our pets safe at home. According to American Humane, approximately 10 million pets are lost in the U.S. each year, and millions of these animals end up in shelters. Sadly, we know that overpopulation of animal shelters leads to unnecessary euthanasia.
Pasado’s Safe Haven is actively working to reduce pet homelessness and shelter overpopulation to save countless lives. Last year alone, we microchipped 1,248 pets in our community, ensuring their safe return to their family if they become lost. Through our targeted Pet Homelessness Prevention Program, we are able to offer free and low-cost microchipping – as well as spay/neuter surgeries – for income-qualified families to make sure they have access to these lifesaving resources. This is particularly helpful to many families experiencing tough times right now. Additionally, each dog and cat that is adopted from Pasado’s Safe Haven is microchipped, a simple procedure that takes seconds.
Thanks to our generous donors who support our lifesaving work, we are able to continue to protect pets in communities who need it most.
