Right now, animal shelters and rescues are in a capacity crisis. As adoptions have declined and owner surrenders have dramatically increased, many shelters are becoming overwhelmed and some are having to euthanize animals at higher rates. Housing insecurity, lack of access to vet care, and behavioral challenges are making things worse.

At Pasado’s Safe Haven, our sanctuary is at full capacity. We recently brought in dogs at risk for euthanasia and two large cat rescues. We have a line of animals waiting to come in and we are getting creative to make space for them.

We are working hard to find new homes for the animals who are ready for adoption, and growing our foster program to find temporary families. We have temporarily reduced our adoption fees to encourage more people to adopt right now. We also continue to offer basic pet services to income qualified families to help keep pets in loving homes (if you need assistance, find out more here).

HOW YOU CAN HELP RIGHT NOW:

  • ADOPT: There’s never been a better time to open your home to a rescued animal. For each animal adopted, we are able to rescue another. You can see all of the available animals here, and adoption fees are temporarily reduced.
  • FOSTER: We have many animals looking for a temporary place to call home while we find them a forever family. Foster situations can be short and flexible, depending on your commitment availability.
  • DONATE: Your support helps fund rescues, provides necessary care, finds new homes for animals, and supports all our lifesaving work.
  • SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PET: Prevention saves thousands of lives. Learn more about our low-cost spay & neuter services here.

Thank you for helping us be there for the animals who need us. Your support makes what we do possible and we really appreciate it.
