What About Clothing?
Compare sanctuary animals' lives of love and care with the typical life of animals born into the animal product-based fashion production system.
Sanctuary VS Reality
Many people do not think about where their shoes and clothes come from. But the reality is that billions of animals suffer and die simply so we can use their skin, feathers and fur for “fashion”. The good news is that now there are a variety of stylish fashions available made from synthetic and natural materials that don’t cause any animal suffering.
The lives of sanctuary animals versus the fate they could have had
Goats, like Willow and AJ who are born into safety, are able to be loved and nurtured by their mother. Mother goats are naturally caring and can even recognize their babies by the sound of their voice.
When goats are born and raised for leather, they are immediately brought into a world of fear. Seen as only a product, these intelligent and curious animals will grow up in a world far from what is natural to them.
Mr. and Mrs. Beans were rescued from neglect. Now living in comfort and safely they will never be exploited for their fibers. Instead they are only shorn to manage temperatures and their wool is shared with rescued birds for their nests.
Before humans began using animals for wool, they produced only enough wool to protect themselves from the cold and did not require shearing. However, in order to make profits, domestic sheep today have been selectively bred to produce more wool than is natural, resulting in a multitude of painful issues.
Clyde and his partner Patty found each other at Pasado’s Safe Haven. These birds now enjoy a rich life. They spend their days doing what geese do naturally – foraging for bugs in the grass, splashing in the water, and being outside in fresh air and sunshine. Geese are social animals who form friendships and lifetime bonds with one another.
Geese used for down have their feathers literally plucked out of them without any pain medication. Sadly, this is how they are forced to live out their entire lives until they are killed. Most will never spread their wings or feel the sun on their feathers.
Dogs like Toast are intelligent, social creatures who many people view as members of the family. They can form strong bonds with humans and are eager to please the people who they are close to. Dogs, just like any other animal, are sentient beings with a strong will to live.
Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages. You may think that it’s only foxes and minks that endure this horrific treatment but many cats and dogs are also used for their skins and they suffer the same intense confinement and brutal killing methods as other animals used in the fur industry.
Safe at Pasado’s Safe Haven, all animals live in a place where they will always be loved and respected.
