Animal Care Internship

As an Animal Care Intern, you will work side-by-side with our experienced caregivers and veterinarians learning techniques and proper care methods for the special needs of our rescued animals. Pasado’s Safe Haven offers an in-depth look at the many layers that are involved in animal sanctuaries, including the rescue and welfare of its residents and how adopting a vegan diet can help save animals and the environment. It’s hard work, but it’s enormously rewarding as well.

By the completion of your internship, you will have extended your comfort level with medicating animals, learning proper animal nutrition, cleaning and sanitizing enclosures, and knowing the satisfaction of gaining the trust of un-socialized and abused animals. The program will provide you with a lifetime of memories and you can feel accomplished knowing that you’ve made a difference to these animals that have been through so much. Pasado’s Safe Haven currently offers only commuting internships. Please email ashleyw@pasadosafehaven.org for more information.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where is the Sanctuary located?
Pasado’s Safe Haven is located 15 minutes outside of Monroe, WA.  It is a rural, wooded area, with gorgeous country and mountain views.

Does Pasado’s Safe Haven provide housing for interns?
Unfortunately, at this time we do not have onsite housing for interns. Interns are responsible for arranging their own living accommodations and transportation.

What should I wear?
You’ll want to be prepared for all types of weather, especially rain in the winter and spring months. Sturdy boots or closed-toe shoes are a must.  Expect that all clothing and footwear will get dirty! No shorts please.

When are internships available?
We operate 24/7 year-round and internships are available 12 months out of every year. Summer months are the most popular so we recommend applications be sent well in advance.

Can I complete my veterinary technician externship with you?
No. We do not have a full time vet on staff who can help you gain the medical knowledge that you need and assist in practicing the techniques that are required for your externship.
