The Spay Station #2... Pasado's second miracle to hit-the-road! After months in the making, our second "big rig" mobile spay/neuter clinic "on wheels" hit the road! Our first clinic has performed over 18,000 spay/neuter surgeries since it began only a few years ago. 71% of all surgeries are provided free-of-charge to pets of the low-income. And now, we have a bigger truck to support what we believe in: the answer is pet sterilization. Period. If we had less unwanted animals, Pasado's Safe Haven would answer less cruelty complaints, take in less unwanted senior dogs and cats. Overall, we'd live in a world where animals would exist in homes that wanted them! Our deepest thanks to the woman that built this second truck. Melanie E. wants to put her money where her heart is. She paid for every dime of the construction of this miracle. Now, it's up to us to make it work for the animals.

Why is the second Spay Station so important? Sometimes bigger IS better. We have more cage space on-board this beauty and that means we can perform more cat spays. A popular Spring-time "offer" is for Pasado's to "fix" mama cats for free, IF you bring in all of her babies. We can also perform more big dog spays and neuters and frankly, most of the dogs we see line up in the morning are large. Having extra cages means saving more animals.

The Spay Station only drives into the lowest of income neighborhoods. And thanks to Safeway Food Stores, we able to park in any of their parking lots which allows us great visibility to the community. Those individuals on public assistance must show proof such as WIC cards, DSHS I.D. cards, etc. then their pet sterilization is free. All other must pay a very low fee.
	The Spay Station is Pasado's Safe Haven's most expensive program. While one amazing donor built the truck for us, Pasado's is responsible for the annual operating budget. And since 71% of all of our surgeries are free to pets of the low-income (and at low, low cost to the working poor) it costs us a quarter million dollars a year to run this life-saving clinic, and it's one of our proudest efforts.
But we can't stand on our laurels of "fixing" over 27,000 animals so far - we need to do more and we're "thinking outside" the "speuter" box to help! The Spay Station received ZERO funds from cities, counties, any government animal control agency - NO one - but YOU! Help stop pets of the low-income from making unwanted babies - Donate to help!
From some of our clients! "Five months ago I became the proud new "Mother" of three abandoned kittens. Unfortunately, they are the product of a little feral who never received the love and care she deserves. She apparently left them in one of my customers greenhouses, on a cold fall night. My friend kept an eye on them and realized the Mother wasn't caring for them. Sadly, two of them died before she could help. I took them home and bottle fed them. We fell so in love with all of them, that we decided to keep all three. We're firm believers in spaying and neutering, but we've spent a fortune on vaccines, etc., so I decided to take advantage of your Spay Station; as spaying and neutering three cats is very expensive. When it comes to my pets, I am a very neurotic Mom and I will admit, I was nervous leaving them with several other animals, and people I didn't know, but I had to write and tell you how impressed I was with everyone and the whole process! First of all, your Veterinarian did such and incredible job! We brought them home and I was amazed at how tiny the incisions were and how great everyone felt. In fact, I've had a terrible time keeping the little female quiet from the moment she came home (she is a wild woman). The boys are doing great too. Your coordinator, Carolyn, was so organized, informative, and respectful to everyone. She is wonderful. The girls that loaded and unloaded the station were also organized, careful, and gave individual instructions to each person before releasing their pet. I had mine chipped while they were in your care which was much less than it would be at my regular Vet., and it's a comfort to me knowing that if we were ever separated, we could find each other. I took my kittens to their regular Vet for unrelated reasons. She looked at the incisions and commented on what a great job it was. Thank you so much for providing this service! It's so important to stop these unwanted pregnancies. The Mothers and the babies always suffer. Mine were nearly starved to death before I took them. Dude had even lost the hair on his nose and front legs due to malnutrition. He's good now and such a love! Just so you know, we are working on humanely trapping the Mother, as well as all the un-neutered males in the area, so we can get them spayed and neutered as well. I had my 6 month old female puppy spayed and all of the staff, from the coordinator to the folks that brought the dog out (vet staff), were wonderful and kind, and non-judgmental. There was quite a variety of folks and their pets and everyone was treated equally well. I have rescued abused and terribly neglected dogs and could not live with myself if I were responsible for litters of puppies. So, thank you so much for all you and your staff do. Lynn S."
