About working at Pasado's Safe Haven...
Because of the range of animal rescue and care Pasado's Safe Haven offers, there are job openings that occur from time to time. Many involve direct animal care, while others support what we do for the animals by assisting at the sanctuary or in the office.

A little bit about where we are
Since our website reaches people around the world, we like for you to know about the North Cascades, where Pasado's Safe Haven is located, before you consider one of our job openings. Is it right for you? Let's see!
Pasado's sanctuary is located one hour northeast of Seattle, but it feels more like a lifetime away. Monroe, the closest town to Seattle, is small, but growing. The sanctuary is located approximately twenty minutes away, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. If you work for Pasado's, we prefer that you live within ten minutes driving distance. 24-hour rescue is Pasado's forte' and we call on all of our staff to help when animals are in need. There are many houses and apartments for rent or sale in the area of Sultan/Monroe, ranging from fairly inexpensive to very expensive (which, we're afraid, you won't be able to afford based on our non-profit pay!).

The weather: While the Northwest is known for being wet, we actually receive less annual rainfall than New York! However, we do admit to gloom, more often than we'd prefer. But the temperatures are mild, even in winter. Although we can experience an infrequent ice storm, most winter months are in the 30's. Summer's are in the 70's or 80's typically.
Civic & Cultural Activities: Thanks to companies like Microsoft in the Northwest, we're lucky to enjoy an abundance of art, science, music, and other cultural activities supported by corporations.
Outdoor Activities: If you like to hike, Mt. St. Helens, the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Baker, or Mt. Rainier are all within a few hours driving distance and offer the most spectacular hiking experiences. If you ski, you can literally enjoy beautiful snow-covered mountains within thirty minutes from Pasado's. Amazing waterfalls are abundant, as are grade 2-5 rivers for exciting rafting. The ocean is within a four hour drive. The Pacific Northwest is truly an outdoor enthusiasts dream-come-true.
For your pet's sake: The great news about living in the Northwest, if you have pets, is there is no heartworm to speak of, or ticks. We always treat for fleas twice a year and that seems to do the trick. Luckily, the temperatures are easy on animals, even seniors here.

Benefits
Pasado's Safe Haven offers exceptional medical, dental and vision insurance benefits and some of the better "perks" not expected from most workplaces: discounted veterinary care for your own animals and the ability to bring your pet to work. And a generous vacation and holiday package so you can spend time with your furry (or other) family!
The typical work week for most positions is five days a week, 8-hours a day but animal caregivers may work a different schedule. Some positions, that directly involve 24-hour animal care, include on-site housing. |

The "downside" of working for Pasado's Safe Haven
Since we explain the "benefits" we should be honest and also tell you what you would soon discover anyway: working in any position at Pasado's Safe Haven, whether it's in the office or on the sanctuary grounds with the animals, can be tough emotionally. Everyone, no matter what position they may play here, is involved to some degree in every rescue. Every story of neglect or abuse. Every cruelty law we work to pass. We wouldn't want it any other way. Despite our different talents, and work assignments, we all share the same passion and we work together to help the animals. But facing sadness, is a reality. The "up" side though, is that you are working to leave a legacy, not just for a paycheck. And you share every one of your work days with people who are just like you - who love animals.

Knowing Pasado's Philosophy
To be able to work cooperatively, we like to know that we all believe in the same things. For instance, we do not believe in "selective compassion" meaning we work for the welfare of all animals. Our kitchens are "animal free" zones. Our coat racks are "fur free". If something can feel pain, we believe in defending it, not eating, wearing, or being entertained by it.
Left, Rita Laws, Pasado's Animal and Disaster Relief Animal Aid Supervisor. Rita started as a volunteer about seven years ago, driving nearly two hours one way to help at our sanctuary. When she retired from the military, she came to direct the troops at Pasado's. Rita shares her life with Matty and Desi, two Katrina rescues. Rita led our rescue efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
