We can’t think of a better way to start off a
new year than with generosity, gratitude, and
compassion.
Every year, Home for the HOWLIdays fills our hearts with warmth. Selflessly giving to those who have the greatest need truly celebrates the spirit of the season. After celebrating Home for the HOWLidays, Pasado’s provides local food banks with much-needed food items to last them through the often-forgotten post-holiday months. So far, Pasado’s has distributed 1,500 pounds of food to area food banks, and we plan to donate another 2,000 – 3,000 pounds within the next week. It is important to us to give back to our local community, and we know what a difference these donations make.
Our donations would not be possible without the generosity of the Snohomish County Safeway stores, who graciously hosted the food drive for us and ensured that the event was a success. And more than 40 dedicated volunteers worked as a team to make sure that Home for the HOWLidays went off without a hitch. Barry, Scott, Brett, and Dan were wonderful caravan leaders, and on December 30th, Barry and Scott picked up bins full of pet food and supplies at 16 Safeway stores – a task that required the entire day. A grateful thank you to the Snohomish County Safeway stores and to our volunteers: your help made all of the difference.

Living on the streets or scraping by every month is difficult for any family, and survival only becomes more difficult as the mercury drops. But every year, thanks to the generous support of donors and volunteers, Home for the HOWLidays gives low-income and homeless families something to celebrate.
We know that low-income and homeless families often have difficult decisions to make when it comes to their pets. So this holiday season, we loaded up Pasado’s “Am-Moo-Lance” with dog and cat beds, food, toys, dog houses, flea medicine, and food, and our caravan of care met at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, WA. We visited families in Monroe, Sultan, Gold Bar, Startup, Index, Baring, Snohomish, and Granite Falls. At each stop, we were delighted by the surprised reaction of each family – and our hearts were warmed by their grateful smiles.
Home for the HOWLidays was rewarding for our
volunteers, who loved celebrating the spirit of
the season and working as a team. One of our
volunteers, Nancy, related her experience in the
following note:
One of my best days in
2009...
With so many of my friends adversely affected by
the 2009 economic downturn, including myself,
this annual event was a vivid and bright
reminder of what brings real and lasting joy:
the act of giving from a place that is honest,
humble and true. I won't forget the kind-hearted
folks we met along the
Sultan-Index-Startup-Baring route last Saturday
-- every person who opened their door to accept
Christmas gifts for their pets was so
appreciative, and they were more than happy to
share stories of how they came to be caregivers
of their pets. For me, the best moment took
place at the Sultan gazebo, where homeless women
and men brought their much-loved doggies and
picked out a bag of kibble and treats. It was
warm beyond measure. The entire experience was
absolutely positive, and I already look forward
to the Home for the HOWLidays event in 2010.
Thank you, Pasado's, for allowing me to share in
the spirit of the season in this very special
way.
Peace on earth,
Nancy
Thank you to all who participated in this
successful day of giving. At Pasado’s, we
believe that a loving family should never
have to choose between which family members
receive food and shelter and which ones
don’t. While Home for the HOWLidays has
ended for this year, you can still help
ensure that the animals have a wonderful
holiday season. Thanks to the support of
readers like you, we can continue to rescue,
rehabilitate, and rehome sweet souls – and
celebrate the spirit of the season.
Happy Holidays – from all of the animals, staff, and volunteers here at Pasado’s Safe Haven.

'Tis the Season
for Giving...
Every year, Pasado’s Safe Haven hosts “Home for the HOWLidays,” when we celebrate giving, gratitude, and the generosity of area animal lovers. We know how important our furry family members are and we began this tradition when we saw that area families were struggling with difficult decisions during the holiday season. Would they feed themselves or would they feed their pets? We wanted to make sure that the answer would be “both.” So every holiday season, we organize Home for the HOWLidays, where generous donors provide food, blankets, and toys to ensure that area cats and dogs have full bellies, warm beds, and toys to cuddle up with. It’s a tradition that we eagerly anticipate every winter, and families and volunteers alike share smiles and tears of joy.
December 19th - a day of GIVING!
This December 19th, with the help of
dedicated staff and volunteers, Pasado’s will
participate in this tradition of giving. A
caravan of care will meet up at the Evergreen
State Fairgrounds, making its rounds to cities
such as Sultan, Index, Gold Bar, and Granite
Falls.
With the economic downswing, more families are struggling than ever, and the cold winter weather only complicates their struggle. We know that the rain, snow, sleet, and freezing temperatures jeopardize all lives, and that’s why it warms our hearts to know that we are making a difference.
A loving family should never have to choose
between which family members get food and
shelter and which ones don’t. If you would
like to ensure that local low-income and
homeless families and their pets have a
happy holiday season, you can donate food or treats for this year’s Home for the HOWLidays
(there are donation bins located inside the door of every Safeway Store in Snohomish County).
If you would like to participate hands-on with this unforgettably heartwarming experience, please
email
our Volunteer Director. Providing food, shelter, toys, and bedding brightens and enriches their lives – and will warm your heart.
And if you are short on time but long on love, please consider
making a donation. Programs like Home for the HOWLidays are successful thanks to the generosity of donors, volunteers, and sponsors like you.
Happy Holidays – from all of the animals, staff, and volunteers here at Pasado’s Safe Haven.
