Giving Thanks - Talk Turkey, Don’t Eat It

Coverage: Q13 Fox News

Here at Pasado’s, we’re happy to greet our turkeys at the gate, and not on the dinner plate. For Thanksgiving, we plan to “serve” our turkeys here at the sanctuary by spoiling them with their favorite treats. The turkeys gratefully gobble up their delicious dinner while Pasado’s staff and volunteers enjoy a cruelty-free meal and reflect upon all that we have to be thankful for. This year, we are especially thankful for the hard work of our staff and volunteers. Together, we have rescued lives, spayed hundreds of pets, and combated animal cruelty in communities and in the courthouse.

While being thankful is a traditional part of this holiday, having a vegan Thanksgiving dinner might seem like an odd way of celebrating “Turkey Day.” But for those of us who know how intelligent and personable our turkey companions are, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Every year since Pasado’s gates first opened, we have celebrated this holiday by giving thanks for the company of our companion animals – especially our goofy gobblers! We see the companionate value not only of cats and dogs, but of turkeys, cows, ducks, pigs, and sheep, as well. This holiday is a time to celebrate all of our friends and family, whether they are furred, feathered, hoofed, or human.

Our goofy gobblers get “stuffed” with a festive feast of corn, cranberries, and grapes (images above). Living with such brilliant birds always makes us feel thankful, but “Turkey Day” gives us pause for thought and thanks.

Pasado’s Safe Haven opened its sanctuary with the mission to serve those companion animals who would otherwise fall through the cracks. Residents like our turkeys often live here for the remainder of their days. While our brilliant birds make us thankful every day, providing daily care and support can become expensive. Would you like to contribute to our cornucopia of care? Please consider making a donation today - your support helps us continue to save lives, pursue animal abuse cases, and provide for our residents every day of the year. Happy Thanksgiving and thank you – from the goofy gobblers and every animal here at Pasado’s!
