Companion animals are exactly that: our companions, there to love and support us. Their health, their hopes, and their hearts depend upon us. So when a cat came to Pasado’s Safe Haven with no medical issues but no appetite, either, we had to conclude that her ailment was a broken heart...
Pretty little Polly came to Pasado's Safe Haven
after being abandoned at a shelter. When this sweet little girl refused to eat, we were alarmed. After examinations by three different vets, no medical issues could be detected. Polly was
perfectly healthy. But her sad eyes, dejected expression,
and continued lack of interest in food
supported our conclusion that an intervention of love was essential to give her hope, heal her heart…and save her life.
Who wouldn’t be sad after being a beloved family member and then getting
dumped like the weekly garbage?
Middle-aged and senior cats usually fare the worst at shelters, where they suffer from anxiety, fear, and depression. Sweethearts like pretty little Polly are also the first to be euthanized, due to their age and their inability to adapt to the harsh realities of shelter life.
Polly is in desperate need of a loving home. Polly would prefer a quiet home where she can be an “only child” or where there are few other pets.
It is tragic that in loving us so much that many cats like Polly meet their demise. One moment they are the center of someone’s universe, and then they are thrown away. But that is exactly why Pasado’s Safe Haven is here.
Polly would have surely fallen through the cracks, but we knew that this sweet girl deserved another chance. Loving too much should never be a death sentence.
