With our guy “Cool-Paw” Luke, there’s definitely not a failure to communicate!
Luke is a loving boy who seems like a tough guy at first. But once you get to know him, he’s a shameless softie
who wears his heart on his… fur!
Luke is a very handsome tabby with white on his
face, chest and paws. Luke is not only striking to look at, but he has
an equally beautiful heart. His pale yellow-green eyes smile with mischief and affection, and he’s always ready
to meet a new friend.
Sweet, playful Luke came to Pasado's Safe Haven after he was abandoned at
a vet hospital when his family learned
that he had FIV, the feline immunodeficiency virus. But Luke has shown everyone at Pasado's that FIV
doesn't slow
him down. He’s outgoing and adventurous and happy to greet you from the FIV bridge with a meow and a playful paw-swipe. He only hopes you’ll give him a “high five” in return – or even
better, spend a few moments getting to know him.
Once you do, you’ll see why we think he’s so special!

Cats with FIV are often the first to be euthanized at shelters. But here at Pasado’s Safe Haven,
we have a special area in Misty’s Kitty City for our FIV-positive cats to play and socialize. We see the
value in cats like Luke, and we know that FIV doesn’t have to be a death sentence. You see, FIV isn’t
transmissible to people or to dogs, but it can be spread to other cats through bite wounds. FIV cats have
weakened immune systems, but they can live long and happy lives with proper care. And loving Luke has a zest
for food, affection, catnip, people, and everything good that life has to offer! The only thing missing is a
true home and the love of his very own person.

cool paw or a warm heart just yet, please consider making a donation. Saving those animals who are at the highest
risk – senior, disabled, or with FIV – is what makes Pasado’s stand out. It’s our mission to save those who
otherwise might fall through the cracks – and one click can help save another life.
From Luke and all of the FIV cats here at Misty’s Kitty City, thank mew and two paws up!

THE FACTS ABOUT FIV
-
The Feline Immuno-deficiency Virus is a slow virus that affects a cat’s immune system over a period of years.
-
FIV is a cat only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non felines.
-
FIV cats can lead long, healthy lives with few or no symptoms.
-
Aggressive, free roaming male cats are more likely to become infected with FIV.
-
FIV is not easily passed between cats though normal day-to-day activities, or though the litter pan,
water or food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens.
-
FIV-positive cats must remain indoors, free from stress, kept on a high quality diet, and have regular
vet check-ups. The virus can be spread though blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious,
penetrating
bite wounds.
FIV was discovered in California at a cat rescue in 1986. The cats there appeared to have an illness
similar to AIDS. Since the disease is a slow virus it is possible that those cats contracted FIV a number
of years before showing any signs of the disease. Since 1986, FIV has been found in every country that does
FIV testing. It is suggested that 1 in every 12 cats tested is FIV-positive. In the U.S. approximately 1.5
to 3 percent of all healthy cats have been infected with FIV.
Following the steps above, your FIV-positive
kitty can live a long, healthy,
and happy life.
