URGENT –Alleged Perp says "dog misbehaved"
June 15, 2009 1500 hrs PST
A man suspected of
shooting his 4-year-old Rottweiler and
abandoning him to die off a Forest Service
road near North Bend, Washington has turned
himself in. Rewards, including ng Pasado's Safe
Haven's offer of $10,000, produced a dozen
credible tips.
The man reportedly acknowledged trying to
kill the dog on May 31 because it wouldn't
behave, saying he didn't have enough money
to have a vet euthanize it. Had he taken the
dog to any shelter, the dog would have had a
chance to live and if necessary, would have
been euthanized humanely. Instead, the
killer didn't even know how to shoot a dog,
tied up, at close range.
Authorities have announced they will press
charges. Intentionally shooting a dog and
leaving it to suffer is a Class C felony,
which carries a maximum penalty of five
years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

While we cannot release information re: details, tips that came in overnight led to a purported confession by one individual. While authorities work hard on putting this case together, Pasado’s Safe Haven is pleased to see a potential case broken within 24 hours of announcing our $10,000 reward.
Keep checking back to this website for updates.
We cannot comment further.
Angel Ray, Pasado’s Safe Haven’s cruelty

More about this case - which infuriates us!
No one knows his name. No one knows where he
came from. But with your help, we'll find the
person who knows those answers - and so
callously tried to take a life.
He was left, tied to a tree, with bullet wounds that tore through his body. He
was paralyzed, yet still alive. People, by chance, found him. Imagine what hope he had when
he met their eyes?
He was taken to a veterinary
hospital. There, the pup went through surgery,
but the outcome was not good: four days later,
he would be led to Heaven.

REWARD OFFERED-
Print a Reward Poster and help us find who
did this!
In 1994, Pasado’s Safe Haven (then called “Friends of Pasado” before the sanctuary was created)
offered the
first reward in an animal cruelty casease in the Pacific Northwest. This was certainly one of the first in the
entire U.S. “Animal cruelty” was rarely reported back then.
A litter of puppies was found shot on a country road. One survived. It was all over the news. The surviving puppy,
like the littermates, had been shot in the body cavity; vets confirmed that the puppies who perished had suffered
a prolonged and agonizing death.
The now-famous puppy was named “Lucky” by the veterinary clinic that brought him back to life. He was recovering
at the same time as the first intentional act of animal cruelty felony bill was awaiting the governor’s signature
in Washington State. If there was any reason to encourage a governor to sign such a bill, it was this case.
You might be surprised to know that killing your own animal is legal in most states. You can thank agri-business
for that clause. But state law demands that the killing be done in a humane manner, to assure suffering does not
take place. In the case of the puppies, bullet wounds were found in the necks, legs, and body cavities. They
truly suffered.
The dog we write to you about today suffered for days with similar wounds.
While the puppy healed, we offered a $500 reward to find out who shot the puppies.
Back then, we were just a start-up organization working out of our home, but the reward
worked! A man was identified and Norm Maleng, then the King County Prosecuting Attorney
(and a true hero to the animals), prosecuted the man. He was charged with the current 1994
penalty, a simple misdemeanor. People were outraged, and the governor signed the felony bill.
We proudly handed the $500 cash to the two young boys, who identified the man.
That was in 1994. Today, Pasado’s Safe Haven stands as a 4-star charity, ready and able to
fight the good fight for animals. Our passion remains the same.
Please help us find who tied this dog to a tree, shot, and walked away. Without looking back, no doubt.
That person must be found.
If you would like to take part in helping us find the ones responsible for this horrible act of cruelty,
please print out our
reward poster
and hang as many as you can. Rewards work only if people hear about them.
The person responsible for this crime has most likely hurt or will hurt other animals.
If you cannot help us poster, please donate to
help. The only way we do what we do, is with you
by our side.
We’ve offered successful rewards in other cases.
