Soul Food
Last week we received a very welcome phone call. Chris C., an employee at the Costco Business Center in Lynwood had a very big donation for us. Mandy W., a long-time volunteer at Pasado’s Safe Haven told Chris that we were always in need of food to feed the animals.
Volunteers are the core of Pasado’s Safe Haven’s success. And recently, volunteer Vicki G.
showed that she’s the core, the roots – and the seeds! Vicki took the time to pick up donations
of bread and produce from Costco and deliver them to Pasado’s Safe Haven. The delicious produce
included fruits such as apples, oranges, bananas; cherries, and pears; and vegetables such as lettuce,
mushrooms, zucchini; potatoes, carrots, and onions. It was a cornucopia of charity!
And not to be forgotten were the loaves and loaves of bread! We were so thankful for the wealth of
healthy food.
After Pasado’s loaded the barn full of food for the animals, we decided to “pay it forward.”
We delivered all of the bread and the remainder of the produce to the local Sultan Food Bank.
When we called Jackie at the Food Bank, she was so excited – they are in desperate need of produce.
The delivery was made that day! It was a win-win situation.
By helping people, we’re helping their pets, too. During tough economic times, difficult decisions
often have to be made. Money saved on food for needy families will help them be able to buy food for
their pets who often have to come last.
We’re so thankful for the donation from Costco. This food really went a long way! And to Vicki, for
her thoughtfulness, many, many “thank moos!” We’re also happy that we were able to “pay it forward”
and help families in need.
