Rescue to Rescue

Mick

Imagine having to choose between keeping your home and caring for your animals. We all need rescuing at some point in our lives...

This is Mick's story:
Mick, an American Saddlebred, was once a beautiful show horse. After providing many years of companionship and joy for his previous owner, he was overused and old. Mick was no longer considered to be "useful," and he was facing euthanasia. What a sad world for a faithful friend, where old-age warrants a death sentence.

Mick's first rescue begins here. A woman with a big heart rescued Mick from his fate. Unfortunately, though, not every rescue has a happy ending. The woman ran into hard times herself: the bad economy, money was tight, and to make matters worse, her home had been severely damaged by a recent flood. She was faced with an extremely painful choice. She could no longer afford Mick – she would either have to find him another new home or have him humanely euthanized.

So once again, Mick faced a premature death. But this time, Pasado's Safe Haven stepped in. At Pasado’s, we serve animals like gentle old Mick who fall through the cracks. We were happy to welcome Mick to our sanctuary.

Little did Mick know that he was soon to be a rescuer himself!

Heather, our Farm Manager with Goldie

Goldie, another rescued horse and Pasado’s resident, had recently lost her companion, Wings, to severe and chronic health conditions. The loss of Wings was difficult for us all, but Goldie took the death especially hard.

For Goldie, life as a “herd of one” was lonely. Horses are herd animals, and their survival depends on being a part of their group. When Goldie and Mick met, they instantly bonded: it was like they both knew that they needed each other. To this day, the two are inseparable! What an inspiring “Rescue to Rescue!”
