After spaying and neutering nearly 30,000 pets of
the low-income in a multi-county area, our “big rig” mobile pet sterilization
clinic is heading onward - and upward (literally!). |
 |
A Little
History (or should that be “hysterectomy?!)
We couldn’t
sleep at night knowing that unwanted animals who filled shelters (and faced
euthanasia) were not afforded free or low-cost spay/neuter services. So, thanks
to a grantor who knew the value of “fixing” the problem at the heart of it,
Pasado’s launched The Spay Station.
After eight years on the road, we sent the clinic south, to assist Pierce
County, Washington, a county responsible for the most strays, owner-relinquished
animals, and sadly, the most shelter euthanasias. Working with an alliance of
great, passionate people there, The Spay Station is moving mountains to cut
those numbers dramatically.
|
|
Meantime, we were blessed with a
donation to build a second, larger mobile clinic.
We unleashed The Spay Station II last year locally, in our original service
area. |
 |
But one memory haunted us: we
visited Whatcom and North Skagit Counties in the past, forcing our dedicated
crews to make a (very) long drive to (very) needy areas. There are virtually no
free or low-cost services for the many pets of the low-income. We wished we
could be there EVERY DAY! There were so many animals who we left behind, NEEDING
our services so badly. It broke our hearts, and stayed in the back of our minds
that we need to do something.
And now we have. |
 |
Pasado’s Safe
Haven has teamed up with our original Spay Station veterinarian, Dr. Karen
Mueller, DVM, to “speuter” in our new service area: Skagit and Whatcom Counties!
Dr. Karen trained with us in Texas, under S.N.A.P.’s tutelage. S.N.A.P.
(Spay-Neuter Assistance Program) in Houston, was the first organization in the
U.S. to launch mobile pet sterilization units, bringing the answer, TO the need
– directly into the neighborhoods that were responsible for filling area
shelters with unwanted animals. Dr. Karen was our “high volume” veterinarian
on-board The Spay Station I, our first mobile clinic, in its first years of
operation. Now she’s back!
|
Dr. Karen
is part of an amazing group of people that Pasado’s is coordinating with
directly that is passionate about ending pet overpopulation.
And
stayed tuned for news about our new spay/neuter “model” for our hometown
area!
New dates
and services area specifics also soon to come!
