History of case: AUGUST
20, 2003 Murphy - A couple's beloved cat was found in pieces and
taken to their vet for examination. Gratefully, the veterinarian did
a thorough necropsy and saved the remains in a cooler. The cat was
intentionally killed and dismembered.
Pasado's Safe Haven has acquired pathologist's and radiologist's
reports that support the veterinarian's conclusions. We have
photographs of the remains, and we have a suspect. Now comes the
confirmation of who we believe committed this cowardly and heinous
act of cruelty.
On Wednesday, August 20th, an army of Pasado's Safe Haven volunteers
posted flyers announcing a $2500 reward that was issued for
information leading to the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of
the person(s) responsible for this crime, a felony in Washington
State.

Above, passionate
volunteers go door-to-door in the neighborhood where two cats have
been confirmed killed by a human(s) and a multitude of others have
either gone missing, or have been found hung or dragged. Right,
volunteers sweep the woods and areas where a cat could possibly be
killed without being heard screaming, searching for remains. The
people who help Pasado's Safe Haven investigate are the angels on
earth. |
Second Case Confirmed - Kenney

|
All that remains of Kenny, left, a beloved family cat who was found
cut in half. His remains were found in the same neighborhood where
Murphy's remains were "laid out", above right. Murphy was found in
two pieces. Veterinary reports confirm these cats were intentionally
killed by a human. - Dr. Tricia Gawley, of the Cat Clinic of Canyon
Park, Bothell, Washington, left, who has been instrumental in
pursuing these cases. Without her passion, Pasado's Safe Haven could
never have gotten this far in the case. Above right, Kenny's
gravesite, in the backyard where he lived. Meeting the owners of
these poor animals who suffered has been very difficult.
An anonymous donor offered to
more than double our original reward in memory of her beloved
Rosie, who passed away this year. We were moved to tears Friday
night to learn what she had done in honor of Rosie's life and
memory. For Rosie, and for the cats who have suffered so much
in this case, we will continue to work as hard as we can to find the
coward who is committing these horrid acts. We will leave no stone
unturned - we vow to this.

Third Case Confirmed - Mr. Grey
A hole, cut cleanly
in the abdominal area of a beloved cat, “Grey”, was left for the
owners to find in Bothell. According to Dr. Cheri Good, DVM, the
hole was “cleanly cut” by a knife, not by a wild animal, car, or
other means. No blood was found nor hair. Evidently the killing took
place off the property and the pet was returned to be found. Organs
had been removed cleanly, see x-ray below. WARNING: GRAPHIC
PHOTOS BELOW TEXT.
This is now the THIRD CASE of veterinarian-verified cat mutilations
in the Bothell area. So far Pasado's Safe Haven has acquired EIGHT
veterinarian, pathologist, and radiologist reports have been
acquired on the three cats, confirming, without question, that this
is clearly an animal cruelty case – not a case of wild animals
killing cats.
Photos of "Grey", third
mutilated cat are below. The reason we place them here is to
motivate you to ACT and help on this case!

"Grey" was cut, it
appears, by a tubular instrument or a knife that left a perfect hole
through the abdominal cavity to the skin on the other side. X-rays
show organs had been removed. Because no blood or hair had been
found in the area where Grey was discovered, it is assumed the cat
had been murdered elsewhere and then returned.
THIS is what Pasado's
Safe Haven does - 24-hour rescue & investigation - NO other animal
agency does this in the Pacific Northwest - but we can't do it
alone. Help us by making a phone call, writing a letter
to the editor of a local newspaper, volunteering, or donating to our
reward fund. |
Lack of action:
Following a third
case of intentional mutilation, veterinarians and residents of Bothell,
Washington, expressed anger that local authorities continue to state
that the mutilations could be caused by wildlife, despite multiple
reports from veterinary pathologists, radiologists, and veterinarians.
To make their point, Veterinarians Tricia Gawley and Cheri Good arrive
at Bothell Police headquarters with bodies of mutilated cats in an
effort to convince police this is not a case of wild animals killing
cats, as they continue to claim. The spokesperson for the P.D. refused
to look at the bodies. Pasado's Safe Haven representatives and
volunteers and Bothell residents also approached authorities in an
effort to encourage aggressive investigation into this matter. we thank
all the people who took the time to express their views today. Pasado's
Safe Haven has been fielding dozens of calls for weeks - we
believe today the police had just a small taste of how incensed people
are over this case.

Why this case is important:
Besides how this cat suffered, it is common knowledge that people who
abuse and kill animals will soon find these acts boring, and will move
on to children, and then to women. Nearly every serial killer admits to
a history of animal cruelty as a child or teenager. Additionally, other
cats in this neighborhood are missing and it's very likely this person
is also to blame.
