Pasado's Story
Pasado Newsletter

Our Thanks, to the thousands who helped. Like the soldiers and national guard who assisted PasadoRescuers every day.

There isn't enough room on ten websites to thank all the people who donated WalMart Gift Cards for supplies, pet food, food for the volunteers, industrial fans to keep the animals cool, and so much more. But at least we can give it a try...

To the individuals, most of whom we'll never know, who sent care packages to the few Pasado staff and volunteers who were in Louisiana from beginning to end...weeks away from their families. Sleeping on the floor. Working in the heat, and seeing horrors few of us could ever withstand...

...you will never understand what your small gifts meant to them. Fresh socks, notes of encouragement, scented hand cream, little things, that made them feel like what they were doing was appreciated.

To the people of Texas. When Hurricane Rita hit, PasadoRescuers left our New Orleans rescue operation hit the road, never caring what they might encounter. They just knew that animals needed help. They drove through hell to get to Texas and then found people, like those, left, who were willing to help in an instant.
People like Todd. an MCI engineer. Within hours, he arranged for PasadoRescuers to get Homeland Security and FEMA clearance to enter into the hurricane zone. He also secured satellite phones and radio links for our crews on the ground. He will forever be our hero.
And thanks to other companies who went the distance to help...like PETsMART Charities. They donated 500 kennel cages that we used to temporarily house the dogs and cats as they were rescued. Their gift was a godsend and made saving hundreds of animals possible...

To Halliburton...yes, the company that gets all of the grief.

Animals were dying by the hour, locked inside houses with no food or water. We needed more trucks or trailers to transport as many as we could rescue out of the hot zone and to our rescue triage barn. We called Halliburton. Afterall, who had more trucks than they? We reached their PR director, at home, on a Sunday and she responded. We had as many trucks and horse trailers as we needed, for as long as we needed. They helped us save the lives of hundreds of animals, like the little girl, left who was transported to safely.

1-800-PetMeds jumped in to help, too. Every last cat or dog we rescued was covered in fleas. It was so horrible for them. 1-800-Pet-Meds found out and shipped $5000 worth of flea control products. They helped relieve the suffering of so many of these animals. We are forever grateful to them.

After months had passed, we were finally able to return home. We had to rent a semi-trailer truck to ship our industrial fans, cots, meds, dog carriers, a refrigerator, microwave, and boxes and boxes of necessities we didn't want to leave behind. But where would supplies, collected from the nation's worst disaster, be stored? We certainly didn't have the room. And that's when Kenmore Self Storage stepped up to help.

Christina, left (with her daughter and faithful companion, Isabel) told us now to worry. While we worried about where we'd put everything, Christina said "Don't worry. Our owners will help in any way they can." And we did. Kenmore Self Storage has supported Pasado's Safe Haven for years, donating thousands of dollars worth of storage. That generosity didn't end when we needed it most.

And apart from "things" that needed to be transported across the country from New Orleans, there were lives, too. Cascade Kennels is another business that dropped everything and helped not once but over and over again. They gave up valuable kennel space to help us isolate incoming Katrina animals who we couldn't introduce to our sanctuary animals until they were healthy.

Larry and Andrea, and their entire staff were and are angels. We could have never rescued without them!

And lastly, to a company that people equate with the best in video games. Nintendo offered their super slick production facilities for Pasado's to capture every moment of Hurricane Katrina rescue in our wonderful DVD. Their donation totaled thousands of dollars and they did it without hesitation.

Meet the special animals you have asked, "Whatever happened to....?"
