Bayou, right after we rescued him
in New Orleans

We'll show you tons of photos below, but first the background of this Hurricane Katrina Happy Ending, and how it all began...

Although the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is arriving, we're still receiving stories of happy endings of the animals we saved. Some are the owners, who finally located an animal PasadoRescue saved. And others, come from the rescuers who worked beside us - and who ended up adopting Katrina animals.

This story, from Kelley Mueller, from California, starts at the beginning. We were going to show all the "happy ending" photos of her and her Katrina dogs, but instead, we thought we'd start at the beginning - when we first "met" her through our website and communicated by e-mail which brought her to New Orleans. It's a life-changing relationship, for her, for all of us here at Pasado's, and without a doubt, for the animals she saved. Together we rescued 1200 animals in the aftermath of Katrina...

Little nervous about driving so far alone. If you hear of anyone else coming out from this area, please let me know. I figured I'd sleep in the back of my truck. Please let me know if that's a bad idea. Thanks for responding so quickly! I think you may rock! See you at the end of the month. Kelley

Hi Susan. I have worked and volunteered in an emergency room trauma unit for people and I now run a dog boarding and daycare facility. I am people and pet CPR/First Aid certified and I want to come help. I would drive from Pasadena, California in my Toyota 4-Runner which could be used for transport and I could stay 3-4 weeks. If you know of any others in California or along the way that want to rideshare I would love to have some company. I'm anxious to hear from you as I signed with the ASPCA almost two weeks ago and they still haven't given me a location to go to. I look forward to your call/email.

Just an FYI... I will arrive in LA around Oct. 2nd or 3rd (I'll email again right before I leave) and I'll stay for at least three weeks. In the meantime, I will follow your website for up-to-date needs. I have access to all kinds of pet supplies from grooming, bedding, chewies, antibiotics, and some other meds. If you have any personal needs for you and your staff (ie. fresh fruit/veggies, hand cream, chapstick, anything) just let me know and I'll bring it. Can't wait to get there. Kelley

While Kelley was in New Orleans with PasadoRescue, she saved countless lives, but brought back three dogs with her to foster in California - a pitbull mix, a Chihuahua, and Bayou, a big, mangy goober. Here is what she wrote upon return home...

Please share this shot with Mark and let him know that Bayou is doing great! He's putting on weight and getting stronger everyday. Soon I will begin treatment on his heartworm and I have several helpers looking for a good surgeon to repair his broken leg. I'll get back to you all soon with shots of the three reunions I made between LA and CA and an update on my other two fosters. Thank you all for this amazing experience! Kelley in California

Yes! Thank you! Thank you so much for putting my beauty on your site for everyone to see. I'm very proud of all three of my fosters and I'm beginning to think I don't want to let any of them go. "Mr." (temp name), my lab/pit pup will be going home for a trial run with one of my co-workers this week after he gets neutered. I'll still get to see him several times a week if this family adopts him. Yeh!

"Chi" the little Chihuahua and Bayou will continue to be mine for a while as Bayou is a work in progress and Chi is getting over his kennel cough...

...Since I've been home, the three monkeys have formed a wonderful bond and they play so well together. It's great to see them so happy......I'll be back in touch soon with reunion shots.
(Sorry I'm not the best photographer)

Just thought I'd send a few shots your way. Mark will remember Bayou. Please know that he is doing so well. He does have some chronic hot spots that he tears up terribly if given the chance. He wears a cone a lot. Other than that, he has put on lots of weight and hair. He is happiest when we go for hikes and when he runs off leash at the beach. He runs soooo fast even with the bum leg. He is so affectionate to complete strangers and he really likes playing with children at the dog park. It's hard to believe that anyone could have ever hurt this precious boy. I hope all is well with all of
you. God bless! Kelley in California
The last we heard, Mister was deliriously happy in his new home, and Chi and Bayou are still making a mess out of Kelley's bed covers.
