 Scrub a Pup Steps
 Up... to Clean em' up!

Before...

Bear's Tale:

Pacific Police officers responded to a complaint about a dog that was barking non-stop. When they arrived, they found Bear and noticed the horrible condition his skin was in. They contacted a King County Animal Control Officer who ordered Bear's owner to take him to a vet for care. Pac PD and KCAC kept checking on Bear and the owner originally complied and took him to the vet. He was told that Bear needed medication, but the owner refused to spend the money.

And After!...

Bear managed to get out of his yard and KCAC impounded him as a stray and then followed up in charging the owner with criminal neglect. Bear's owner was originally trying to get him back but was encouraged to surrender him as part of his criminal case. Once he was surrendered, KCAC contacted us and asked for our help. The rest is history. He lived here a short period of time and was put on a medication regimen and soon went into foster care with Larry & Carla from Scrub A Pup.
Thank Carla and Larry here - and if you can send a big hug, do it too!

Carla and Larry have owned ‘Edmonds Scrub-a-Pup’ since 2000. Their story is one of intrigue, passion and faith. These two took the ultimate risk and quit what they were doing, to do what so many people only dream of. Carla and Larry jumped into the dog business. Led entirely by passion, they knew nothing about grooming or dog nutrition but felt completely clear that this is what they were meant to do.

It all started with a call from their daughter. She called telling them about a sweet little puppy she saw each day chained in the back yard of a house.

Unable to put the innocent dog out of their minds, they were able to rescue the baby and bring him home. Everything was fine until the day they decided to get little Oscar Meyer groomed. Taking their new family member to a corporate pet supply store was the beginning of the rest of their lives. When Carla and Larry picked Oscar up, he was a different dog.

Left, Colby, rescued from horrid conditions gets a day of beauty! (Read about his incredible story of rescue in an upcoming newsletter for those of you on our mailing list! If you're not, sign up for the Pasado's newsletter!)

Oscar was miserable. They immediately took him to their vet to try and figure out what had happened. The gruesome truth brought forth the sad but true reality about so many grooming facilities today. They discovered that Oscar had been beaten with a slicker brush. This is a very common type of brush that has many little wire teeth. Examining him, the vet found Oscar’s body covered in bloody scabs. Pulling them off of Oscar’s skin, each came out with a hair follicle attached. Discovering this he decided to test his speculation to be certain that he knew what had happened. Dr. Z brought a slicker brush out and showed it to Oscar. Immediately Oscar Meyer bared his teeth at the doctor he had trusted seconds earlier. Discovering this horrendous truth, Carla and Larry began telling their friends and neighbors. They soon realized that this was not an uncommon experience in the field of grooming.

Oscar Meyer grew very sick and soon began having seizures. Along with his sickness he grew very aggressive.

Carla and Larry worked their way to the vice president of the company where this crime occurred. When finally speaking to the V.P, the company completely denied any possibility of this ever having happened.

Left, how Larry spends many of his days, covered in dog!!

This caring couple knew that they must do something but they didn’t know exactly what.

One day they decided to take another one of their rescued dogs into a “do-it-yourself” bath house. This was the move that answered their questions and gave them the solution they had been searching for.

Carla and Larry risked it all and opened “Edmonds Scrub-A-Pup”. As the business grew and more and more dogs came in, they began to see a pattern in common health ailments. This led them to pet nutrition, which they became madly passionate about. Being able to help hundreds of dogs, they have become experts in this growing field and sell only what they have researched extensively in their store.

When they opened their store, they began doing fundraisers for all different animal rescue organizations. They use their store to help raise awareness about animals in need.

Learning of Pasado’s and watching them in action during Hurricane Katrina, Carla and Larry felt that this organization is the kind that they wanted to support. Because helping animals is what they are passionate about, helping Pasado’s is the way that they are able to fulfill that dream.

Donating car loads of goods to the Pasado's "Give A Dog A Home" Christmas Day giveaway to pets of the poor. Sending money and supplies to Pasado's rescue efforts in New Orleans, countless monetary donations, and providing amazing foster for some of our sickest animals, is a taste of the support they provide on a continuous basis. Their devoted groomers; Erin and Maya have also donated incalculable hours of grooming and love to many of Pasado’s animals!

With 6 rescued dogs and 8 rescued cats of their own, there home is all about the animals. With filtered water fountains, toys galore and a buffet of fresh, healthy, ‘top of the line’ pet nutrition, their home is what every pet dreams of.

Pasado’s exists because of people like this. We are so grateful for this amazing kindness and generosity! Thank you Scrub-a-Pup!
