Dudley's Dream Comes
True |

Dudley in the shelter
|
As you know I've been pretty sad
with the loss of my best friend, practically inconsolable and feeling like half
of my heart has been ripped out (I know you guys know what I mean).
On Sunday I was looking at one of those websites, you know the ones with all the
poems that make you start bawling your eyes out, when I saw there was a pet loss
support group at the Tacoma Humane Society which is about 45 minutes away. |
The group wasn't really a group,
just a kind volunteer that understood how it felt to lose such a special friend,
she listened to me cry, etc. For some reason I was pulled to go walk through the
kennels, it felt like at the time that I was torturing myself. One of the first
dogs I saw was named Dudley , a large old black dog that had come in as a stray.
I think I was attracted to him because he, like me, had a broken heart. He just
lay there and barely looked at me, his spirit was so sad.
|
I'm not ready for another dog, at
all and I didn't want to consider it but I couldn't get this sad old dog out of
my mind. Heartbroken and all alone at a kill shelter for over a month.
I've seriously been such a basket case, I can't work and have been so hopeless.
For some reason I felt pulled back to the shelter to Dudley ....I really didn't
want to adopt him but just had to go back this afternoon.
|
I walked in the shelter and up to
Dudley 's kennel which was one of the first ones and standing there was an
angel. He had a Pasado's Safe Haven shirt on and was looking at Dudley 's
paperwork. I asked him about Dudley and he said he was taking him to Pasado's to
live the rest of his life safe and loved in their care at the sanctuary. I
hugged the poor man and then started blabbering about Ryley.
I was in the front lobby of the shelter when a Humane Society volunteer came up
to me (I had come back in because I wanted to give him a donation) and asked if
I was the one who had hugged Will. She said to wait around and I could see
Dudley "leave the building".
|
When he was ready she came and got
me and they brought him out of his kennel and I got to give him a big hug (
Dudley that is). He jumped into the back of the Pasado's van onto a big soft
pillow. They took a picture of him before they left (there were two Pasado's
people there) and Dudley had the biggest smile on his face.
It was NOTHING and I mean NOTHING short of a miracle the way it all played out
with the timing and happy ending.
I know it was from Ryley, a way to show me in a language I'd understand that I
didn't need to be so sad for him, that he's still with me creating miracles.
I feel better, lighter and calmer. I still miss him like heck but the hurt has
shifted.
Thank you Angel Ryley.
Dudley is now living peacefully at Pasado's sanctuary where he is spending
his days roaming freely on 28 beautiful acres. If you are interested in
meeting him, please contact us here.

Pasado’s Safe
Haven has been rated a 4-Star Charity for a record four years in a row.
According to Charity Navigator, the nation’s premiere independent evaluator of
charities: “Only 10% of all charities in the
U.S. have
received at least 3 consecutive 4-Star evaluations. This indicates that Pasado’s
Safe Haven outperforms most charities in America in its efforts to operate in
the most fiscally-responsible way possible. This “exceptional” designation from
Charity Navigator differentiates Pasado’s Safe Haven from its peers and
demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

Chief Operating Officer, Charity Navigator
