The Goats Dream Comes True!
by Jenny M, Farm Animal Manager

After pleading and prodding for a playground, the goats dream finally comes true.  It took two months of diligent weekend work and a lot of love, sweat, and cheers.  Pasado’s would not have been able to pull it off this quickly without the wonderful, dedicated help of these two guys- Erik and Larry.  These two cool cats both have one thing in common; they love animals and they love building.  What a perfect combo for our Pasado’s needs.
Erik is a Washington native who owns Elite Construction and has been a contractor for 5 years now.  He specializes in Residential, custom homes and remodeling.  His wife, Tam, of 13 years opened his eyes to animal rescue and has been involved with animal rescue for years.  They have 8 cats, 6 are rescued or fostered through MEOW, a non profit cat rescue in Kirkland. Years ago she saw a need for food and other items on our website and put together a fund drive at REI, where she works.

The completed project.  The goats are just
waiting for the humans to get off of their toy!

Larry found out about Pasado’s Safe Haven years ago when he lived in Monroe then again heard about it again through Erik, who used to work for Larry.  He has been an animal “nut” since he can remember.  He would constantly bring home hurt or stray animals as a child; even snakes.  One snake he distinctively remembers residing around their front porch all summer and would even let them pet it when they sat on the porch in the evening watering the lawn.
Our goats have always had dirt mounds and boulders to climb on, but nothing quite like this.  Erik and Larry- We cannot thank you enough for creating such a beautiful work of art that will forever enrich the lives of our goats!  It is a Pasado’s Monument.  This playground paradise will add so much to their well being.  It will give them so much stimulation and provide a true enrichment opportunity for the goats.  We are pleased to have been given the opportunity to give them a play area that will let them cut loose and truly live life to the fullest!
Meenie waits in anticipation to check out the playground.  It was pure bliss to see the happiness expressed on the goats (already) smiley faces when they saw their new toy.

The whole gang, including Beauty, Pasado's amazing chicken, who volunteered her time to supervise the project

It was a pleasure working with these two dedicated, compassionate souls; I can’t wait to work with them again.  There work here is something that has changed Pasado’s forever and will fulfill the lives of all the rescued goats that make their way to Pasado’s Safe Haven.  Huge thanks to Erik, Larry and all workers that contributed their time to make the goats so happy.

If you are interested in changing the lives of our animals here at Pasado’s, we have lots of building projects in the works.  We are always looking for experienced builders and handy men.  Please contact Jenny if you can help our animals with their next dream, or click here to donate for building materials to make these dreams happen.
