"The love Pasado's saw that Kevin has for Hoover and that Hoover has for Kevin is nothing less than beautiful!"

Helping Hoover's body
keep up with his Spirit

Kevin knew he and Hoover belonged together from the moment he saw him.  He was the  biggest pup in the litter, had the most spirit and was as fast as a speeding bullet.
In his new home and never far from his owners side, little Hoover grew into a big, strong 100 pound lover full of loyalty and devotion for his dad.  He loved to run, play chase and go after squirrels in the yard.

He quickly earned his name from his love of eating.  He never allowed the other little puppies to get any food, he would "hoover out a dog dish before anyone else could eat".

And then one day when Hoover was just a year old, he was running around the back yard playing while his dad was cutting down a tree.  Kevin was extra careful to know where Hoover was but when the tree came down it bounced right at a moment when the curious pup pounced back near the tree.  Hoover was accidentally hit by the tree which landed on his back. He ran away with a yelp, but appeared ok. Still able to play, run and wrestle, Kevin had not reason to suspect any damage done that day.

Then five years later, Hoover was walking around the corner yelped and fell down.  Kevin took his beloved dog to the vet, where after an exam the vet declared the damage was permanent.

Those were the last steps he would ever take...or would they be?

Hoover's useless legs do not slow down his spirit and love of life.
"Nothing stops him, it never has.   He wants to play and run with the other dogs, and if I am not careful he will take off pulling himself out and all around."  Kevin tried to make several different types of wheelchairs out of old lawn mower parts so that Hoover could still have the most enjoyment out of his life but they never seemed to work just right.

When Pasado's Safe Haven heard about Hoover, we presented the idea to Kevin to see if we could come out and take a look at the handsome boy.  The love Pasado's saw that Kevin has for Hoover and that Hoover has for Kevin is nothing less than beautiful!  Hoover never strays more than a foot from Kevin's side.

"I don't think I have ever seen a more patient and tolerant dog.  Hoover allowed us to manipulate, maneuver and mold his body into this new awkward contraption.  Never fighting us he held his big body up while we worked to fit him into his new wheels." said Kim K, Pasado's staff member.

Finally his body can keep up with his spirit!

"When we finally got the big boy set, he took off as if he had been in one always.  His first experience though, was not the most graceful as he flew up a small hill in trees and wiped out, in his new cart.  Once we got him back onto flat ground and situated he continued to cruise around the yard."

Kevin is grateful and Hoover is happy.  Pasado's staff and volunteers are thrilled that we could help Hoover continue his adventures.  To see him running and playing again are the moments we all strive for.  Pasado's will be following up with Kevin and periodically checking in on Hoover to make sure things are working well.

Says Kim K- "These are the best stories...the best experiences!  This is the best part of this job.  As it can be so heart wrenching, so painful and so hard to do, to experience a day like the day Pasado's had with Hoover, is the fuel that runs tireless through me.   I feel so honored to get to be apart of helping animals like Hoover! Because of our awesome supporters, Pasado's is able to continue helping animals in need.  Thank you for your kind, generous and loving support for the animals!!"
