A Bremerton WA family is heart broken after a cowardly person shot their dog from behind which resulted in an injury that later led to his death.  Colonel was found limping up their hill yesterday (7/24/08) at about 11:50am with his friend, Shotz (a second dog belonging to the family), with a gun shot wound that had shattered his femur.  He was hemorrhaging profusely and the damages to his leg were beyond repair.  His family was forced to say goodbye to him as he was euthanized.

The most disturbing fact about this cowardly act is that because of the location of his injury, it is obvious that he was walking or running away from his killer.  Reports of other pets that have mysteriously disappeared in the neighborhood area also being investigated.  A responding officer stated that traps have also been found in the area which could cause harm to children and animals.

Colonel wasn't only stunningly beautiful, he was also very intelligent.  He had received extensive search and rescue training and just had a natural sense for guarding and protecting his family.  "All the neighbors around us seemed to love him" said owner, Lucas H.  He was 10 years old.

Colonel's best buddy, Shotz is in mourning along with the rest of the human family members.  He tremendously misses his friend that he used to spend the day having fun adventures with.
