No less than Murder…

The puppy was only 6 months old. Bandit had gotten through a fence around the Hassi home and strayed onto Evelyn Wade’s property. Within seconds there was a loud boom and Bandit lay paralyzed on the ground. Wade allegedly picked up her rifle and shot the dog, not far from the children who had been following Bandit around a short time before. Neighbors in the Lake Samish, WA neighborhood told Vicki Hassi she was lucky it wasn’t one of her kids. Wade stated that she does not believe that the children were ever in jeopardy; “... I didn't even know they were there."

The bullet pierced Bandit’s spine and the golden retriever pup was later euthanized. "He was the mellowest puppy you could imagine," said Hassi. Read the whole story here.

Wade was charged immediately with aiming or discharging a weapon, a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $5,000 fine. As of this writing, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s office has handed the case over to the Prosecuting Attorney’s office who will determine if animal cruelty charges will be filed. If Wade is convicted of First Degree Animal Cruelty she could be facing an additional year in jail and another $5,000 fine.

There is no question that this is an act of animal cruelty. The Prosecuting Attorney needs to hear from you, now!
