PasadoRescue Deploys to 3-county-wide area
Pacific Northwest Flood  - Animal Rescue Alert

UPDATE 12/22:

Annie has arrived at the sanctuary!

Before Pasado's- Even though Annie was greatly loved by her owner, she needs medical attention that the owner could not provide.  Knowing that Pasado's could help, she was turned over to us where she is running & playing (seen right) while she awaits her surgery.

Pasado's is still on stand by to help the Lewis County shelters and people as requests for help continue.  Although it has been a couple of weeks since the flooding, people are still in great need.  Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who have driven supplies to Lewis County and THANK YOU for all of your generous donations and donated supplies.  We hope that the families and pets that lost their homes and belongings can feel at least a little comfort this Holiday Season thanks to your generosity.

UPDATE 12/15:

  • Annie, the little chained dog that Pasado's Rescuers met in Lewis Co. has been surrendered to Pasado's Safe Haven and will arrive at the sanctuary this week!   She will need medical attention.  It appears that she has lost one eye already to disease.  Please continue to watch for updates on Annie, the sweet girl who will never be bound to a chain again.

  • Pasado's has been able to not only collect supplies for the affected areas, but also monetary donations to help shelters there.

  • Pasado's has delivered one load of supplies and is waiting for direction on the area needing supplies most.  We will keep you updated on how you have helped us help flood victims pets.

UPDATE: 12/14

Two of our fantastic Pasado's volunteers, Jen & Bruce, live close to flooding and have continued helping those in need this week- including Debbie and her cats.  I cannot express the caring hearts and the drive that these two have to make such a big difference wherever there is a need.

Jen had sent us the following update along with photos:

It is cold here in Thurston and Lewis Counties, the ice remained on pools of standing flood waters throughout the day.

Pasado's Rescuers, Jen and Bruce, returned to Debbie's house to spread pine chips to help keep her pets dry.

Bruce and I returned to Debbie’s house this morning with donations of a dog house and pine chips from Alpha Pet Supply in Tenino, as well as other donations of a heated cat house, bedding, and more cat food.  Debbie had many helping hands today from members of the Church of Latter Day Saints and other local groups.  They pulled many of her destroyed and damaged belongings from her house and shoveled tons of mud by hand from her house.  When we arrived the cats were in the shed, huddled on the platforms provided for them by Pasado's Safe Haven yesterday.  They continued to pick their way through the mud looking for somewhere in the sun.

A team of volunteers also covered the ground with a thick layer of hay.

With the help of the team already there we were able to remove much of the debris from the shed and shovel out most of the mud to get to solid ground.  Donations of hay bales provided a thick layer of dry hay on the ground which the cats immediately checked out ((I think they approved!) More platforms were constructed and crates and houses were filled with pine chips and blankets to provide insulation against the cold.  We could hardly work fast enough, the cats were very eager to check out their new accommodations.  More donations of food and clean dishes arrived and the cats dove into a hearty meal with a chaser of clean water.

By the way, Annie, the dog, was the Queen of all she could survey from her dry perch and new dog house.  She kept everyone motivated by occasional forays out of her dog house to supervise.

Give everyone a hug, talk w/you soon, Jen

Pasado volunteer, Byron, comforts one of Debbie's surviving cats

Thursday, 12:36pm PST
Around 4pm this afternoon, we were informed about a lady owning animals and in desperate need of help.  We found Debbie at her house which had a river of thick mud running through it.  The mud had appeared to have washed right through, destroying her things and leaving them strewn about the yard.  She had lost everything except for most of her beloved animals.  Two of her cats did not made it through the flood and when she spoke of this her voice began to quiver.  Out of everything, the loss of those two little lives was almost too much to take.

Pasado's staff & volunteers deliver supplies

Even after all she had been through- She kept repeating over and over, "I am so blessed.  I am so blessed..."  She praised us for our mission and said that she wished that she could help Pasado's.  We were so touched by her beautiful spirit and passion for animals.

Debbie holds her kitty "Piggy" close

We will be returning to see her in the morning to bring her warm clothes, (as she only had time to save her animals and not a single one of her possessions) and food and treats for her animals.  Thank you to all of you out there that are supporting us so that we can make a difference for people like Debbie.  When you help us help the animals, that kind act also helps people making the world a little better for all.  We have seen first hand today that these animals are family and what matter most in times like this.  Please watch for continued updates...

ANIMALS RELOCATED
Foster homes, shelters, and pastures are already arranged to provide temporary care of animals. The primary need as of this posting is to get the animals out of water and to provide dog and cat food, dry beds, and livestock feed.

WHAT WE NEED
We do not need people at this point. The foster homes, shelters, and pasture owners will offer the hands-on care once we deliver animals to them. Since we only have one swift water boat, we cannot ask for more trained volunteers than we already have.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Please call in a donation to our feed store, donate a Costco or PETsMART Gift Card or simply donate on-line. We'll head to the nearest, open stores in the Lewis and Mason County areas. We also need to put-up our rescuers in motels for the week, pay for gas for our trucks and boat, and for food. We'll use your generous gift to support the people doing the work of angels.
