Pasado's Story
Pasado Newsletter

After 8 years of living with a family and loving them, Sandy, a sweet, senior lab, was dumped at a shelter. Her guardians told the shelter staff something was wrong with her leg - that the problem just developed recently. It wasn't true at all.

As an old girl, Sandy wasn't likely to be adopted, especially with a leg she couldn't put any weight on. Thankfully, Pasado's Safe Haven was called and she was rescued from imminent euthanasia.

Sandy was seen by a veterinary orthopedic surgeon who found that she had a very rare
ligament injury that had happened years before. This girl had been hurting for a very long
time.

We put out the call for help after hearing that the surgery would cost around $2000. And
angels, who looked at Sandy's photo on our website, and saw their own lab, looking back
at them, stepped up. Sunil and Monica, left,  had "discovered" Pasado's Safe Haven when we
fought so hard to find justice for Mooie, a little puppy who had been burned with an
unknown caustic fluid. They had watched our website since then.

When they saw Sandy, Mitsu (left with Sunil) seemed to speak to them, asking for them to help her. And they did. They paid for all of her surgery. We can never thank them enough for what they did for her.

The following is a letter from Sandy. The best news of all is, once she recovers, she will
have a new home. We hope she forgets about those people who she dedicated her life
to for eight long years. Her "new life" has just begun!

Dear friends,
Thank you for reading my story a few weeks ago, and for the outpouring of love you sent
my way. I was so happy to hear that many of you are asking about how I’m doing and
what’s going on.

First I had to be isolated for a few days to make sure I didn’t bring any germs from the
shelter where I was dumped. Then it took a while to get an appointment with the
surgeon to look at my leg. I caught a cold right before that appointment, so we had to
wait ANOTHER week. Finally I got in and had my surgery on January 19.

The surgery took almost three hours and it may take some time to know if it was a
success. I’ll be in this splint with limited activity for six weeks. How is a Lab supposed to
have limited activity for six weeks?! This could be the biggest challenge of my life! My
doctor confirmed that my injury was an old one, but I would have told him that if he could
have understood me. I still hate to think about how my old family lied about getting rid of
me because they couldn’t afford the surgery on my leg. My leg was messed up for as
long as I can remember. I guess they just wanted an excuse to dump me. Anyway, that’s
ancient history. I’m feeling good and I’m optimistic that the surgery will take.

I was especially moved by the incredibly kind humans who donated the money to pay for
my surgery. It was very expensive and I feel so fortunate that these humans care so
much. It helps me forget about the ones who dumped me.

I’m saving the best news for last. I’VE BEEN ADOPTED by a wonderful human named
John! When he saw my story on the website he e-mailed all his friends and told them to
read about me. Apparently he couldn’t stop thinking about me, so we met on the night before my surgery to see if I would get along with John’s other dog. We got along fine and it looks like I have found my new forever home! I wish I could lick all of your faces in gratitude!!

Stay tuned to this website - we'll bring you updates on Sandy and her new dad from time to time. Finally, the happy ending she deserves!
