Harley Goes Home...WAHHH!!!!!

We had a little bit of a hard time seeing Jane and her husband show up to "interview" Harley, the most enormous rottweiler we think we'd ever met. He'd been dumped at a shelter. And considering A. he was a Rottweiller and so many people think they're vicious, or at least, potentially "mean" dogs, B. he truly was ENORMOUS i.e. he'd be eating more than a typical family of four, and C. he was a senior - what were the chances of Harley being adopted? Luckily, Pasado's Safe Haven was called and we picked up the big feller. And that's when the problems began. Not for him. For us.

Harley ended up being one of those dogs YOU JUST HAD TO HAVE. Great with people. GREAT with other dogs. LOVED cats. Gave kisses. Sat when you told him to sit (and then offered his paw to you.) All of us at Pasado's, who all have way too many animals at home, all wanted him. And then Jane contacted us.

She and her husband had just lost Diesel, a dog they said was a mirror image of Harley. A big goober who lived to love. They had to meet him. The day came and we brought Harley up to the People Barn offices. He walked around and licked Pumpkin (the ancient cat we rescued with one eye, a broken jaw, and a formerly broken leg). He just "owned" the joint - and we continued to be smitten (and were slightly hoping his new visitors might fight something wrong with him).
The door opened, they walked in, took one look at Harley and Harley ran to them, sat down as if "on cue" and offered his paw to them. We knew. They knew. Harley knew. It was a done deal. They took him for a walk around the sanctuary and were so in love by the time they returned we were elated, although slightly sad. But Harley truly had found heaven.

Jane sent us this e-mail and we thought we'd share. To think this boy was given up by some people who never valued him, to face euthanasia, and then to find love, by so many people. Who was looking over him, we wonder? But no matter, he is in the hands of his forever loves now...

"Hey Pasado's!
We had a wonderful weekend with Harley. He is a perfect fit for us. His spirit is very similar to our dear departed Diesel, just very mellow and gentle and looking for love. He has been brushed and brushed and then bathed . Also he will get the stitch in his gums removed. He is missing his big canine incisor on that side which may be part of the same injury and might have something to do with the mystery about what happened to him.

Harley and the cats are doing just fine, no problems at all. He even leaves the chickens alone, so I can let them out when he’s outside without worrying. We had several long walks and he is so good he had “pasture privileges” all weekend.

We feel so fortunate to have found him and thank you so much for all you did, and do. We would still consider being a foster family for other dogs, so keep that thought tucked in the back of your mind.

Thanks again for such a soulful gift of a lifetime, Jane."

Agh! We LIVE for these moments! Thnk YOU Jane - and keep bringing Harley out for a visit so we get our big goober kisses fix!
