Pasado's Story
Pasado Newsletter

They're dumped at area shelters, because they're old. Or because their owner died and no one in the family stepped up to take them in. Or...for any number of reasons.

They come to A.A.R.F.F., the American Association of Retired Felines and Fidos, where they can live out their lives in peace. And sometimes, they meet their life-savers....

Myra jumps in the car of her new Master & Mistress and heads to her final home - her forever home...after almost meeting her maker at a kill shelter.

Harley, a.k.a. "The Biggest Goober" (and we mean BIGGEST - he's HUGE!) has his wish come true. Read about the Harley Happy Ending here!

Jack & Rover, two senior brothers dumped at a shelter and ready to be euthanized, came to Pasado's - and we NEVER thought they'd be adopted due to their age, and because we'd never "split them up". But thankfully, Wendy and Andy, dedicated Pasado's supporters, and angels, stepped up. Read this great story here!

Sandy

She came to Pasado's old, and with a leg so painful she couldn't touch the ground. We fixed her...and she got a new home! Read her happy ending story here!

Toothless in Seattle...
where he is today...

Little Monty, all 6 pounds of his senior soul, came to Pasado's, rescued from a shelter where he was about to be euthanized. No teeth, a touch of incontinence (o.k. a LOT of incontinence, which is why we feared he'd never be adopted)...

But anywho...

out of the blue came an e-mail from Rita, a long-time Pasado's Safe Haven supporter. She had lost her little dog (who also happened to be completely incontinent) and although she vowed to "wait a little longer" to adopt again, she saw Monty on our website and HAD to meet him. But would her other dog, Brownie, approve?

Anywho...

long story short - they met. Fell in love...and here's the NEXT e-mail we got from her...

"Oh my goodness. I LOVE him so much I cannot believe how wonderful he is. It was a crazy weekend though because I am cat sitting for my son's cat while they are on a family camping trip and his cat Muffin (a feral cat they rescued from the desert) hates all other living creatures so she is in my master bedroom this week with the door locked! Getting in and out alive is a trick.

Monty got a bath last night and he is so shiny and fluffy this morning. I sit on the floor and protect him while he eats and he is getting the idea that he is home. He sleeps on my feet but he comes up and cuddles with me first and then goes down to the end of the bed and goes to sleep. Last night Brownie and Monty were sleeping curled up together while I was watching TV. He is so loving and yet so energetic. He runs all around the back yard and if he comes to any vegetation that is too high for him to run through, he just hops over it. He is completely housetrained now -- he only goes inside when I am gone and he goes on the wee-wee rug now like my other little dogs have done. What an angel. It breaks my heart to think someone would give him up. My little Boogie who died in January always thought of my daughter Elizabeth as her "person" even after living with me for so many years, when Elizabeth would come over, Boogie would go crazy. Elizabeth had saved her from a shelter in Montana. I was thinking if Monty saw his own person, even after all of this, he would probably go crazy to see her too. How can people not reward that kind of devotion. I will spend the rest of his life trying to make him forget being abandoned. He is so much fun.

I have a double leash and two little red halters so I can take both of the little dogs for a walk at the same time. Brownie weighs 11 pounds and Monty only weights 5.5 pounds. But the vet put Brownie on a diet -- he has to lose 1.8 pounds and I think Monty will gain a little bit, if he hasn't already. He loves his food.

Well, I could gush on all day but I better get some work done."

Rita, do keep e-mailing and sending us updates. YIPPEE for wee-wee pads -and for Monty!

Update - Gage just passed away, in the arms of his entire adopted family, at home. He went naturally and hearing their voices that sang to him as he passed. Read his story,  here.
What a happy boy Trevor is! Volunteer Bunny began fostering Trevor soon after his arrival at AARFF. It didn’t take long before they were completely smitten with one another. And the rest, as they say, is history. Congratulations Trevor!
Our little Katie wants you all to know that dreams really do come true. She went from living with a homeless man and being in a dire health crisis to joining the AARFF gang, getting an extreme makeover at WSU Veterinary School, and now she has very own forever family! Volunteers Rick and Tina provided Katie with her post-surgical care. And (of course) everyone fell madly in love with each other. (Ya' didn’t really think they’d bring her back to AARFF, did ya?!)

Dear little Misty (new name
Shorty) was adopted this
summer by our wonderful
volunteers Jay & Alyne. Not
only does Shorty completely
adore her new family, she is
sooooo happy they aren’t PC
(politically correct) kind of
people. She loves “Shorty”
and could never imagine
listening to “here
Vertically-Challenged, here
girl!” for the rest of her
days! Congratulations,
Shorty!

10+ yr old Charles, a regal
Russian Blue. He was
recently adopted by one of
our long time supporters.
Charles adjusted to his new
home immediately and is doing
fantastic. And of course he
already loves his new mom.
We always give an extra cheer
when one of our feline
residents finds a forever
home as kitties seem to have
a slower adoption rate than
their canine counterparts.
Good for you, Charles! We
are so happy for you!!

It was love at first sight –
for both Chester and his new
mom Adrin! Chester now leads
a very healthy and active
lifestyle including hiking,
running, walking, and
playing. But his favorite
activity of all is being an
assistant Pilates instructor
(his mom’s the teacher!). We
all know how much Chester
loves the ladies. Surely he
must think he’s in heaven.
Way to go, Chester!

13-yr old Maggie Mae is
feeling years younger since
being adopted by Darlene,
Breanne, and kitty Mo.
Maggie is the house princess
and has appointed herself as
Mo’s guardian (who knew she
adores cats so much?). Upon
arriving at her new home, she
immediately laid her cheek on
the carpet, stuck her rump in
the air, wagged her tail
wildly, and gave us the
biggest goofiest grin we’ve
ever seen. That Maggie!
Did you know Pasado's Safe Haven enjoys a 42% adoption rate of our elderly dogs & cats?
