Pasado's Story
Pasado Newsletter

 |
Every Friday, people call
in sick at work (well, of course they'd never do that!)
and come out to Pasado's, driving vans, SUV's and hatchbacks.
As the gravel crunches under their tires as they make their way through
the farm roads to
A.A.R.F.F., old dogs start barking. Howling. It's just
one big free-for-all. They know, it's CAMP CHARLIE DAY!!!! |
|
 |
The loading begins, one by
one. And soon, all the senior residents from the American Association of
Retired Felines and Fidos (o.k., we can't bring the cats, that would be
a bit much) are on their way to doggie day camp.
We know they know it's Friday. You couldn't talk any
volunteer of Pasado staffer into thinking any differently. There is a
spring in their senior step every Friday morning, just waiting for those
cars to arrive. |
|
 |
Some dogs, like Lanie,
left, can't wait for a driver. They decide to take the wheel on their
own instead! |
|
 |
Loaded up and on their
way!
The dog enjoy the "ride in the car" they look forward to every Friday,
we think, as much as they like going to Camp. It's an amazingly loud
30-minute drive. There's a lot of barking and hollering, much like
taking children who've eaten too much candy on the way to a carnival!
And just like kids, they're pooped and quiet, on the way home later in
the day! |

Camp Charlie
Thanks to Jaime, one heck of a guy, left, who owns this amazing doggie
day care camp, Pasado's Safe Haven gets to bring all the old geezers out
for a romp and a swim. The camp is normally for people who leave their
pups behind when they go to work. But Fridays are "Golden Days" for the
old ones from A.A.R.F.F. |
 |
Wahoo! We're there! Off
come the shoes of the volunteers, pants are rolled up, sticks collected,
and the splashing begins! |
|
 |
It's amazing what Fridays
mean to our rescued seniors. They truly come alive. Everyone of them has
arthritis, but they don't remember that when a stick, or 20, are thrown
into the gentle river to fetch. |
|
 |
We think the therapy is
great for the old pups, but it's something our volunteers just won't
miss. They say it's the highlight of their week. And how can you blame
them? Rick,
left, is one of the angels who helps Pasado's Safe Haven in so many
ways. And he especially good at hugs! |
|
 |
If you've ever thought of
adding a dog to your crew at home, these boys and girls would be the
best - they get along so well with other dogs. Simply no problems.
They're so well socialized. And you'd even be able to bring them
every Friday so they wouldn't miss their old buddies!
Left, Jake and Rover, two
brothers who were dumped at a shelter by their owner. They're
12-years-old and we'll make sure they're never separated. |
|
 |
Lanie, left, dries off.
After a few hours of playing, these senior folks get a little pooped!
Melanie, our A.A.R.F.F. lead volunteer, who organizes every Camp Charlie
outing, enjoys a hug from one of her favorite girls. |
|

|
Howard, left, is
one of our oldest dogs. But when he sees a tennis ball, or stick, you
can't pry it from his mouth! It truly beings back the puppy in him.
We're so grateful that we can give these old ones, who were once
discarded by their owners, just because they're old, days of happiness
and love. |
|
 |
There are only a few
more Camp Charlie Friday's left to the year. Once the cold and rain
come, we let our residents stay warm in their heated cabins. If you'd
like to be a part of what brings so much love to our animals, please
consider
volunteering. We
promise, it'll be the highlight of your life!
