Pasado’s Safe Haven’s staff and volunteers met at the courthouse on August 2nd in support of justice for Rosie. Rosie was a beloved family pet who was shot to death by the very police officers who are paid to keep her community safe. Rosie’s owners, Charles and Diedre Wright, were in court last week asking for a chance to have their case heard, and for the police officers to face criminal charges.
The judge has agreed to review all information regarding this case and decide by September 12th whether the case will be dismissed or move forward.
This case is very important because it will help set precedence for all similar cases. Sadly, this happens very frequently. We hope that our presence helped the court see that the public cares and is paying attention to these cases.
Our ultimate goal is to get dog behavior training implemented into the Police Academy as a mandatory part of their training. This training would enable officers to better assess dogs in all situations; teaching them how to work with a dog and how best to restrain or capture them safely, when needed.
