June 13, 2011- Pasado’s Safe Haven began the largest cat rescue in our sanctuary’s history today. This rescue was in conjunction with two other rescue agencies: N.O.A.H. (Northwest Organization for Animal Help) and Purrfect Pals. After hours of work on a site south of Seattle, WA, Pasado’s took a total of 54 cats back to the safety of our sanctuary. N.O.A.H. and Purrfect Pals took over 30 cats each, with five litters of kittens finding sanctuary at Purrfect Pals. Efforts are still being made to trap and rescue the remaining cats.  It is possible that Pasado’s won’t know the final number of rescued cats for several days.

The rescued kitties will be available for adoption in two weeks

Pasado’s Safe Haven learned about this rescue from Animal Planet, which features a show entitled Confessions: Animal Hoarding. An individual contacted Animal Planet indicating that their home situation had become unmanageable and that they needed help. The individual was in over their head, but their heart was in the right place. Pasado’s respects the individual who asked for help – it takes a great deal of humility to realize when one needs assistance in a hoarding situation.

Pasado’s Safe Haven had initially feared that this situation would be far worse. After catching all of the cats, Pasado’s, N.O.A.H., and Perfect Pals will spay, neuter, and vaccinate each of them. The individual who contacted Animal Planet will be receiving several of their cats again after these cats have been altered and vaccinated. The individual also has a dog who will be spayed and returned to the individual.

Many of the cats and kittens have upper respiratory and eye infections.

Due to the conditions of participating in the filming of this television program, Pasado’s cannot divulge any further details, including the exact location of the rescue and the individual’s identity. The show will be airing on Animal Planet this autumn.

This is the largest cat rescue in Pasado’s history. We need an unprecedented level of assistance: we desperately need foster families, volunteers, adoptive homes, and donations to provide for these sweet cats.

If you think that you can open your home and heart to one or more of these rescued cats, read more about how to foster or adopt. If you’re able to volunteer your time, we’d love to have your help. And if you’re short on time, but long on love, your donation can help us finish trapping, vaccinating, altering, and rehoming these cats.

Rusty, who is sick and injured, was just looking for a little bit of comfort

Pasado’s is committed to being at the forefront of animal rescue - but we do need your help to continue saving lives. Thanks to the support of readers like you, we can continue to be a voice and a force for the animals in the local community and beyond.

Please check back for further updates on this rescue.

Thank you – from all of the animals here at Pasado’s Safe Haven.

What an amazing sight.  That beautiful Rusty holding the volunteer’s hand will stay with me for awhile.  He has a look as if to say, “thank you so much for helping me and my friends…*sigh*…finally.”

Rusty is such a handsome, sweet guy!  It turns out that he had a bad case of ear mites and a nasty cut on his ear.  He has been treated and is on his way to recovery!

This story just makes me so sad.  I wish I could adopt a couple.

    Just do it!!
I was only going to ‘adopt’ a cat OR maybe two; then my computer mouse led me over to ‘just peek’ at what kinds of dogs were available…..well, from there it goes rather quickly ~ from filling out my applications, talking a couple of times to the wonderful staff up at Pasado’s, then I had a meet-and-greet with a fellow named Harry who won me over with his beautiful eyes….then, since I had offered to adopt a cat also, or instead ~ I was approved for that also!! My home visit was a charming experience, and the woman who came to my home discussed the idea of Fostering both a cat and a dog so that my dreams could come true a lot faster….the rest is history. Harry came to live with me several weeks ago and know I cannot remember if he has been here for three or for two weeks; as it seems like he has just always been ‘my dog.’
Then, I decided to make a visit to deliver my applications for Foster Care and to Volunteer, too. While I was there it was the perfect time to visit all the great, beautiful, loving and ‘just wanting to BE loved’ kitties and cats there. I began in the regular feline area, but had already decided upon either one or two older cats with either HIV or both with Leukemia….it was a really difficult decision from there, as there are just SO many to choose from with a variety of personalities, looks, peculiarities, fun, shy, innocent and sassy….and that is NOT all the different types!! Then there is the decision on size and sex!! Boy, I spent about two or almost three hours trying to decide upon two cats….what to do??
I asked my guide to help with my decision and of course she said it was ultimately my own….no help there!!!  Then I asked her which ones really needed homes and would get along with Harry (even though anyone you take home can be on a trial run basis; it would be hard to take any of them back, I think). She said that the two who had been rescued from The Granite Falls case were ones who didn’t always have the spunk to ‘get’ to their food first, as they were newer to the shelter and she felt they may not get adopted as easily because of some issues we both discussed…..I ended up taking Tow (pronounced Taou) and also a real look-a-like in Lauer. They knew each other and stuck together a lot. It would be a comfort for me to take them both, as I wanted two in order for them to be friends and also companions for Harry (who is having a difficult time waiting until these two get settled ~ he just LOVES his cat friends!!).
Now I want to go and get one more older cat to Foster, and will be there this weekend. I think that it will be hard to choose again (because when you are there, you just wish you could take them ALL with you). But I am considering Taylor, because of his similar story….though I can choose whomever, since neither of my new friends has any medical issues!!  Grand indeed….
So, I just dare you to fill out an application to see how far you go. I realize this is a long story, but it takes a lot of thought to decide upon an animal in your life ~ some folks just don’t have what it takes ~ I was one of ‘those types’ and now I am very happy and so are three small animals who do not have a voice of their own to ask you to love and care for them…..all they have is the LOVE.
Thank you for reading and I hope that others will listen, hear and ‘feel’ what I felt. It is wonderful.
Cheers to all the people involved with every aspect of Pasado’s and the rescues, and the donors who help to keep things going….without ALL of this, there would not be such a fine place on this earth.
