Duke, Doxie, 17 years

Duke may be 17, but he feels 7!

This older, spunky boy loves the company of other small dogs.  He’s mild mannered, but confident.  He may not be the fastest pup in the pack, but he’s happy to walk right beside you or come curl up in your lap.  Duke came to the sanctuary with fellow doxies, Blondie and Peanut.  Duke is approximately 17 years old although that doesn’t slow him down!  He is the oldest of the three doxies, but seems the youngest.  Duke’s original owner passed away and he had to go live with her daughter and her children.  So, Duke and his friends have spend a lot of time around children young and old (he lived with a 4 year old).

Please consider adopting Duke.  He would like to go with his two best pals Peanut and Blondie, but he could easily go on his own.  He’s an easy going old dude, who is just happy to be with people.

Duke REALLY needs a warm, safe home where he can spend his retirement feeling loved. This sweet older gentleman howls in dismay after feedings and walks… even though he is with Peanut and Blondie, he just hates when there aren’t people around. If you’ve ever fostered dogs who are older or would like to start, please consider this little pack! They are sweet and do not need a lot of outdoor space. They enjoy short walks on nice days, but would be content with even a small area to go to the bathroom. Most of their day is spent napping and curling up together on the bed, so they would make a great addition to the home of somebody who is less active and can appreciate the simple joy of relaxing at home.

YAY! Malli is out right now with Duke on a field trip to go feed her horse! He was so excited… you should have seen his little legs workin’ to get to her truck! :O)

Oh, I would take all 3 of them if I had the means to!!! Senior Doxies tug at my heartstrings like no other animas on earth.

I found Duke a stroller yesterday! So, picture this: Maximus (100lbs), my dog Wallace (75lbs), and me pushing Duke (21lbs) in a stroller up from the storage barn to people barn. Yes, I’m officially a crazy dog lady. The big boys did really well walking slow and not pulling so that I could manage the stroller “off road style”. Duke absolutely loved it!! He was snarky as ever – snapping at the big dogs if they got too close to his new ride ;O)

Dukey fed and mucked at the horse pastures today! He had quite the adventure :O) And then we refilled the big pig beds and fly sprayed the cows! If you’re looking for a farm dog, he might not be a conventional choice, but he loves it!

  • Pam

You need to come see this, Jess the caretaker doing the farm chores while pushing Duke in a baby stroller. Gotta love ya Jess!!

My little Bubba Dukey helped a work party at the horse pastures today! He then helped me lead a tour around the farm :O) Big Day. He is at this moment completely passed out :O)

  • Pam

Jess the caretaker went on vacation, and now Bubba Dukey seems subdude and sleeps alot. But that’s probably a good  thing. I think he’s gearing up for when Jess gets home and he’ll be ready to get back in the stroller again!

Dukers and I are rockin’ out to Marc Cohn in Virginia’s office today. Abbie’s learning what it’s like to have the party pack in town :O) I think she likes it – she’s been purring and hanging out on the desk

  • Jess the caretaker

Duke’s sporting his Sherlock Holmes coat today – freezing weather and all. So cute :O) We grabbed some coffee this morning and the woman at the stand gave him a couple biscuits – quite the adventure!

  • Jess the caretaker

Bubba D helped with the work party today – and boy did he wear himself out. Poor little guy is feeling less energetic with the cold, icky weather. Please stop by the People Barn and spend some quality time with Duke, Blondie and Peanut :O) These sweet 3-pack will melt your heart – They just need a safe, warm place to call home.

  • Jess the caretaker

I’m doing a home check for Duke today! Hopefully everything goes well :O)

I’m so sad to say that Duke’s foster home fell through. He’s still up for adoption if anybody out there is looking for a loyal, sweet, charismatic old man who just wants a family of his own!

  • Jess the caretaker

Well, we found a foster home for Peanut and Blondie – now it’s just our sweet, little Bubba D left! He’s going to live in the caretaker office with Nadia until we can find him a home as well :O)

I just don’t understand how he hasn’t been adopted yet?! He’s so loyal, loving and adorable – and it would be FREE to foster him! All he needs is a safe and warm home. Please keep Duke in mind for anyone looking for the ultimate lap dog!!

It sounds like that adorable Bubba D is living a pretty good life with you guys… We are in Spokane and just lost our “old man”.. Duke stole my heart as I browsed your website.. I hope he is doing well… not sure we are ready to add to our little family (yet), now two dogs and two slaves…uh.. adults.. Please give him a kiss.. I will be keeping him in my thoughts..

Sounds like Duke has a pretty good life with you guys..????. We are in Spokane and recently lost our “old man” at 15 (he was a Jindo).  I’ve been cruising your site and Petfinder just in case someone grabbed me and Duke is the first one to do that.  HE did steal my heart…. not sure we are yet ready to add to our tribe.. have two dogs, both rescues … and we are in our 50s..  If he has adjusted and you all can give him cruises through the farm he has probably become accustomed to that life…. I couldn’t help but send this.. please give him hugs and kisses from a faraway mom who thinks he is adorable..

    Hi Judy,

Thanks so much for sending love Dukey’s way! He’s napping on his blankies next to me right now :O) …had a pretty full day yesterday helping me interview a potential new caretaker! …and by that, I mean I carried him around in his baby chest pack for an hour throughout the farm and then let him wander around the horse property for awhile :O)

You would have died seeing him rolling around “crab style” on his back in the pastures! Such a cutie patooty

  • Judy Hunt

Thanks for your note and for all the fun you are giving the little man… still thinking about him lots… Wish I was closer to you all.. how lucky he is to have you .. how lucky all your rescues are but Duke seems super special.  :)
