Omi’s Homestretch
Omi was an equine athlete who gave her all on the racetrack and was poetry in motion. Omi won more than $150,000 for her owner and trainer. After her retirement, she was bred every year for 15 years, producing her last foal in 2007. Omi’s time with her babies was limited, but she tried to make every moment count. Omi had earned her retirement and she deserved to live out her days feeling secure, safe, and loved. Instead, her owner neglected her. Omi wasn’t making him money anymore, so he was no longer going to invest in her, emotionally or financially.
Fortunately for Omi, a Good Samaritan contacted Pasado’s Safe Haven, and we were delighted to help this amazing mother. As a result of her limited handling, Omi is still very shy, but she is still adjusting to her new life. She had never been loved before, but she is sweet and open to our kindness. We will make sure that Omi finally feels like she has truly reached the winner’s circle – but this time, her prize will be lots of love, attention, and care.
Sadly, Omi’s story is not unique – but her happy ending is. Omi narrowly escaped being euthanized because she was no longer able to produce foals for her owner. At 23 years of age, Omi still has many vibrant, wise, and wonderful years ahead, and Pasado’s is pleased to know that she will thoroughly enjoy each one. Omi is a beautiful horse who has finally found her winner’s circle – and plenty of family members, human and nonhuman alike, to receive her motherly love.
