Nadia is a three-year-old black and tan shepherd mix. She’s a social butterfly who loves people, other dogs, and cats who can tolerate her energetic spirit. Nadia loves playing with her toys and exploring her surroundings – but this sweet little dog is anything but typical.

When she was only three months old, little Nadia was found lying beside the road after being struck by a car. A Good Samaritan found her and rushed her to a veterinarian. While the vet clinic graciously donated most of her care, her diagnosis was devastating: Nadia was paralyzed from the waist down.

After physical therapy proved ineffective, both of Nadia’s hind legs were amputated. While the people around her were heartbroken, Nadia was never fazed by her condition. She simply does not know that she is “disabled.” Nadia healed quickly from her surgery, and within a few weeks, she was walking around on her two front legs. She can now run, hop, and even go down stairs!

Pasado’s Safe Haven rescues the animals who fall through the cracks, including the old, the sick and injured animals like Nadia. The decision was made that Pasado’s Safe Haven would bring Nadia to our beautiful 85 acre sanctuary and provide her the love and medical care she needed. Every day offers a new adventure for Nadia as she meets new people and dogs at the Pasado’s sanctuary.

And, we saw how easily Nadia was able to adapt when we got her a set of wheels. “Once she realized that she could take off, she really took off!” said a Pasado’s Caretaker.  People often comment on how we could all learn a lesson from Nadia – to remember what is really important – friends, relationships, memories…and the power of a positive attitude in any situation. Nadia clearly does not dwell on what has been lost, but more on what has been gained.

Nadia does have special needs, so we are asking that her forever family meet the following criteria:

- Someone with veterinary medical experience is ideal or someone who has hospice experience.

- Someone with the extra time to give Nadia all the care and love that she needs.

- Someone who will be able to financially care for her. Nadia requires extra vet visits and acupuncture really helps her. She has had back pain and will need to be monitored and receive care and medicine for that as her pain comes and goes.

- Someone who wants to adopt her and love her forever. It would not be fair to her to place her in another temporary situation. She is ready and deserving of a forever home!

Nadia is ready and waiting to find her forever family. Her joyful spirit would fill any home with love.

This baby girl needs a home. Dogs in wheelchairs can be just as fun and rewarding as a dog with all four legs. Nadia would make someone a great dog! Who can say no to a face like that?

At first Nadia intimidated me a bit, as I’d never been around a disabled dog, but I knew I wanted to befriend her, so with the help of the staff’s instructions, I’ve gotten acquanited with her so she now recognizes me (she’s quite the guard of her domain) and have learned to walk her with her gentle back leg lifter that fit so easily and was easy to manage !! Who knew. As I walked her, I discovered this little girl loves to RUN ! This little adorable girl is not disabled in her heart and mind for sure ! I was doing laundry in the people barn where Nadia lives and all of a sudden, I see her run around the corner to greet me, wearing a very cool backpack/bag attached to her so she can run around freely without worrying about hygeine, etc. Pasado’s is taking very good care of her, getting her on a regular potty schedule, finding tools/ways to make her more mobile so someday she can be adopted to the right home. She really is an adorable girl and I look forward to walking her and playing with her again, especially now that I know how easy it really is.

It is a joy to see Nadia every time I am onsite to volunteer.  She is so sweet . . . and I think she may even be beginning to remember me!!  Always eager for a pet on the head & a rub on her ears – she is such a love.  Those big, beautiful, soft ears of hers always capture my heart, and always warrant a kiss on the forhead!!!

Today is Nadia’s first day hanging out with Scout, our hairless Aussie with the patience of a saint. They are doing really well so far and would love if anybody has time to come out and see them! She might only have two legs, but that hasn’t slowed her down a bit :O) She loves going out in her cart, and now that she made a new friend they’d love to go walking together!

Nadia has discovered the joy of running down a sandy beach! She went to Golden Gardens twice this past week and had SO much fun! Trigger came with us the second time and they did really well together :O) It was so cute watching her break into a full sprint to chase down seagulls and pigeons… I could barely keep up with her!

Nadia also went to the Mill Creek Festival on Saturday. She met a new friend who is going to come out to the farm with her family to visit Nadia this weekend! I’m so excited for Nadia to be meeting more people and getting more socialized… this is exactly what she needs :O)

Nadia spent the day with my pittie mix… you should have seen them playing together! It was so sweet. This little girl just needs some TLC and a loving home to call her own. And guess what?! She was going and down the two low stairs to Virginia’s trailer following my girl… not bad for two-legged dog! It was so cute

Nadia’s going to the Bark at Marymoor on Sunday! See her there :O)

Nadia went trail running yesterday :O) You should have seen her! Pretty great stuff… maybe we’ll go again today

It is so much fun to watch Nadia play with my APBT Pup Sophie she plays as if she has four legs and Sophie treats her all the same at first she was like dude your missing your back legs…. then it didn’t really matter since it didn’t matter to Nadia at all! She is an amazing lil lady with a big heart and anyone who adopts he would be a very lucky person!

Nadia strained herself playing to hard earlier this week…. she’s on restricted movement and pain meds, so please stop by the People Barn and say HI if you’re in the area!! She’s going crazy being all locked up :O)

Hi Jess – how is the little sweetie doing now?  Is she better?  Poor thing!  I can imagine being cooped up is so hard for her.  :-(

      • Jess the caretaker

Hi there – I’m sorry I  haven’t checked Nadia’s page lately! She’s doing well… we’ve started to reduce her pain medication, and she’s back in her cart. I let this silly girl run off leash for a bit the other day and she took a corner so fast that she got her cart up on two wheels! She’s going to have to get back in the groove so I can start taking her trail running again :O)

  • Jess the caretaker

Nadia’s got a new roomy – my favorite boy DUKE! She drives him crazy sometimes, but overall they’re pretty cute together. In the last month or so they’ve even started sleeping together on the same bed sometimes :O)

We just need to find that perfect home (preferrably with tiled or laminate floor!) where Nadia can learn to be a trained dog. I brought my shepherd mix to work the other day – and you should have seen her flirting with him! It was so cute! She was watching his every move – if he’d bark at the door, she’d look at him and then look at the door and then look at him to see what to do next. She’d get all excited and lick and nip at his ears, and then try to tuck her little nubby backside underneath his chest to cuddle up with him.

I can’t wait until she’s healed up a little more and start going on longer hikes again!

  • Jachapel

Hi – can anyone at Pasado’s provide an update on this sweet little girl?  How’s she doing?

  • Jess the caretaker

Nadia sacrificed one of her stuffed animals to make a new elbow pad for Bandito yesterday… you couldn’t ask for a sweeter, more caring girlfriend :O)

You should see her trying to snuggle up to Bandito during the day – they are pretty cute together. She looks so small and girly next to him!

Nadi’s new cart is getting shipped tomorrow!! A week or two and we’re going to be tearing up Sultan… or at least the trails around PSH. So excited!  …so is she – well, at least I think so, but she’s passed out cold right now in midday nap mode… resting up for all the adventures that are to come :O)
